Pacers sign, waive Bentil

-

The Indiana Pacers signed Celtics castoff Ben Bentil yesterday — then waived him just hours later. Bentil was a second-round draft pick of the Celtics in June. The former Providence College standout was not expected to get much playing time in the NBA with the Pacers and was instead likely to be assigned to play for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the D-League. . . .

The Los Angeles Lakers waived Yi Jianlian at the Chinese forward’s request. The Lakers also waived Anthony Brown and apparently kept Metta World Peace on their opening-night roster.

Yi returned to the NBA last month after a four-year absence in an attempt to win a job with the Lakers. The 7-footer was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft. . . .

The Oklahoma City Thunder finally cut ties with troubled Mitch McGary. The team announced that it waived McGary, a first-round pick in 2014, along with Ronnie Price, Chris Wright and Kaleb Tarczewski. McGary faces two NBA drug suspensions. . . .

The New Orleans Pelicans waived Alonzo Gee, a move that keeps recently acquired Lance Stephenson on the opening-night roster. . . .

Archie Goodwin was waived by the Phoenix Suns. The former first-round draft pick played three seasons with Phoenix. . . .

The Utah Jazz picked up 20-17-18 options on the contracts of Rodney Hood, Dante Exum and Trey Lyles.
