Richard V. Fernandes of Carver, a business owner, died Monday at his home. He was 79.

He was born and educated in Plymouth.

He worked as a driver for Carver GATRA bus before retirement.

Mr. Fernandes had previously worked at Buttner’s Clothing in Plymouth before opening his own rug cleaning and janitorial service called Beauty Floor and Rug Cleaning Co.

He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, going to casinos and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis A (Pinto); four daughters, Virginia (Ginna) of Plymouth, Kathy McCarthy of Hooksett, N.H., Lisa Bragdon of Carver and Doreen Barton of Oak Ridge, N.C.; a son, Richard of Carver; two sisters, Alice Centeio and Irene M. Gomes of Plymouth; a brother, Thomas P. Jr. of South Carver; nine grandchild­ren, five great-grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Carver.
