“THE ACCOUNTANT”

-

Rated R. Grade: B

If you can imagine a mix of “Rain Man” and the Keanu Reeves franchise “John Wick,” you can imagine “The Accountant,” a film about a hired killer with autism that does and does not take itself too seriously. In the title role, Ben Affleck is Christian Wolff, a highly skilled professional whose expertise extends way beyond saving his customers a few tax dollars. When Christian is hired by super-scientist and inventor Lamar Black (John Lithgow), the head of Living Robotics, to find out where $61 million of his company's money went, Christian meets the film's romantic — sort of — heroine, fellow accountant Dana Cummings (Anna Kendrick). Affleck is much better as this autistic superkiller than he was as Batman in the dreadful “Batman v. Superman.” Plus, “The Accountant” is frequently very entertaining, and the cast is so talented you forgive a lot of padding and the patronizing tone.
