Karen Guregian’s NFL power rankings

-

Patriots (6-1)

Looking at the schedule, not to mention how well the guy at quarterback is playing, don’t think they’ll be leaving this perch any time soon.

Vikings (5-1)

Mike Zimmer called his offensive line “soft.” Not the kind of insult the boys in the trenches want to hear from their coach.

Seahawks (4-1-1)

Russell Wilson just added a pectoral injury to a knee problem. As long as he’s standing, they’ll be fine.

Cowboys (5-1)

Tony Romo is back practicing, but Dak Prescott is still the man. Don’t think he’ll turn into a pumpkin after the bye.

Broncos (5-2)

Great week for Denver. Defense continues to be awesome. And Trevor Siemian looks much better than Brock Osweiler.

Packers (4-2)

They need to find a healthy running back or Aaron Rodgers just might have to chuck it 56 times a game.

Cardinals (3-3-1)

Carson Palmer is 2-4-1 in last seven starts, with more INTs (nine) than TD passes (eight). Bruce Arians must be smarting.

Chiefs (4-2)

In a pass-happy league, it helps when your secondary leads the league in picks (10).

Eagles (4-2)

Four turnovers and six sacks. Not a bad day’s work for the defense.

Raiders (5-2)

They’ve won four straight road games. Last time that happened for the Men in Black in a single season? Thirty years ago.

Falcons (4-3)

Wonder if that ill-advised fourth-and-1 call in OT comes back to bite ’em down the road?

Steelers (4-3)

A welcome bye week, especially after seeing Ben Roethlisberger is throwing, his return due perhaps sooner than expected.

Bengals (3-4)

They ripped off 579 yards of offense last week. Too bad they couldn’t play Cleveland every week.

Lions (4-3)

In the 16 games Jim Bob Cooter has been offensive coordinator, Matthew Stafford has blossomed. Coincidence? Doubt it.

Bills (4-3)

Rex Ryan says today’s game vs. the Pats is “critically important.” What about last week in Miami?

Chargers (3-4)

Melvin Gordon couldn’t find the end zone with GPS last year. Now has a league-high 10 TDs.

Giants (4-3)

Truth is stranger than fiction. Odell Beckham Jr. picked up after making the kicking net his pal.

Redskins (4-3)

Kirk Cousins was impressive on the late go-ahead drive vs. the Lions last week, but was one-upped by Matthew Stafford.

Texans (4-3)

Houston, we have a problem. If Brock Osweiler didn’t cost so much, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

Colts (3-4)

Every week, Andrew Luck proves as good as the rest of the team is bad, yet he wins despite it.

Dolphins (3-4)

No one-hit wonder here. Jay Ajayi topped 204-yard effort vs. the Steelers with 214 yards vs. the Bills.

Ravens (3-4)

The only good news? After losing four straight, they’re not out of it in the AFC North.

Titans (4-4)

Thanks to DeMarco Murray, they’re showing how you can still win with power running game.

Buccaneers (3-3)

Upcoming three-game homestand should make or break their chances in the division.

Panthers (1-5)

Road to winning 10 in a row (and the playoffs) starts now. Not likely, but the Chiefs did it last year.

Rams (3-4)

The longer they keep Jared Goff hidden, the worse it seems. Can he be that bad? What’s the point of Case Keenum anyway?

Saints (2-4)

Averaging the most first downs per game in NFL, but also surrendering the most first downs.

Jets (2-5)

Finally remembered why they brought in Matt Forte: to rescue them from their quarterbacks.

Jaguars (2-5)

Most blame Blake Bortles’ regression for failed expectations. True, but the ‘D’ is a co-conspirator.

49ers (1-6)

What’s it say when you surrender 562 rushing yards in two weeks vs. the Bills and Bucs? It says your run defense stinks.

Bears (1-6)

Jay Cutler best summed up John Fox’ feelings about having to play him: “He doesn’t have a choice, I guess, at this point.”

Browns (0-7)

Will they ever make it through a game without losing their starting QB? Seven games, six quarterbacks. Yikes!
