Jaguars change plan, dismiss OC
The Jacksonville Jaguars ended up making a coaching change in the wake of an embarrassing loss at Tennessee. It wasn’t the one many expected.
The Jaguars fired offensive coordinator Greg Olson yesterday, parting ways with him two days after a lackluster effort against the Titans, and one day after coach Gus Bradley insisted no staff changes would be made. Olson was escorted out of the building during pregame ceremonies for the Florida-Georgia college game.
“After a thorough evaluation, I came to the conclusion that with the direction that our offense was headed, it was best to make a change moving forward,” Bradley said. Quarterbacks coach Nathaniel Hackett will take over play-calling duties next week at Kansas City.
“We all felt good about the offense coming out of preseason,” Olson said. “Our inability to find an identity in the run game once the season started hurt the entire offense’s ability to improve. ... I wish I was given more time, but that’s the nature of this profession.”
Jets activate RT
The New York Jets activated right tackle Breno Giacomini (back) from the reserve/ physically unable to perform list, making him eligible to play today against the Cleveland Browns. Giacomini started every game at right tackle the last two seasons.
To make room on the roster, the Jets waived wide receiver Jeremy Butler.
Broncos add RB
The Denver Broncos promoted running back Juwan Thompson from their practice squad to take the roster spot of C.J. Anderson, who was placed on injured reserve following knee surgery. Rookie back Devontae Booker will make his first start today against the San Diego Chargers. Kapri Bibbs will back Thompson up.
