Lynch endorses Brown for VA post as Palin blasts Donald’s deal

- By CHRIS CASSIDY and CHRIS VILLANI

Sarah Palin — who’s competing against Scott Brown for the cabinet-level post of Veterans Affairs secretary — slammed as “crony capitalism” Donald Trump’s deal with Carrier to prevent 1,100 jobs from being shipped overseas.

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent,” Palin wrote in an op-ed for the website YoungCons.com.

“Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.”

Palin added that “corporate welfare” is “a hallmark of corruption. And socialism.”

The former Alaska governor’s statements appear to put her at odds with Trump as he’s considering her for the Veterans Affairs slot. Also in the running are Brown, Pete Hegseth, the former head of Concerned Veterans for America who has met with Trump, and Florida U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs.

Meanwhile, the former Bay State senator continued to receive praise from Democrats yesterday. Bay State U.S. Rep. Stephen F. Lynch told Boston Herald Radio he would “wholeheartedly support” Brown’s candidacy.

“I have been at a lot of events with Sen. Scott Brown on veteran’s issues — he’s the real deal,” Lynch said. “You can’t be the champion of every issue, but he has been the champion of our veterans. No question about it, he is legit in his advocacy on behalf of veterans.”

Brown retired as a colonel after serving about 35 years in the Army National Guard.

“I would also caution him that he has got a lot of work to do,” Lynch added. “We have three major VA hospitals in my district and we have some big, big, big problems in Denver, in San Antonio, down in Phoenix, that really need action.”

Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Brown’s bitter rival in the 2012 senate race, also endorsed his bid on Thursday.

Brown met with Trump last month about the post.
