West Virginia routs No. 1 Baylor

Nathan Adrian broke out of a shooting slump with a career-high 22 points, and the No. 10 West Virginia men’s basketball team beat No. 1 Baylor, 8968, last night in Morgantown, W.Va., the Bears’ first game as the topranked team in program history.

Baylor (15-1, 3-1 Big 12) committed a season-high 29 turnovers — the school record is 31 — and never led in its second true road game of the season. The loss means No. 5 Gonzaga is the only remaining unbeaten team in Division 1.

West Virginia (14-2, 3-1) started the second half with an 11-3 run and kept pouring it on, leading by as many as 26 down the stretch.

The Mountainee­rs toppled a top-ranked Big 12 opponent at home for the second straight season.

Kansas 81, Oklahoma 70 — Frank Mason scored 19 of his 28 points in the second half and the No. 2 Jayhawks (15-1, 4-0 Big 12) won their 15th straight game, rallying past the Sooners (6-9, 0-4) in Norman, Okla.

Villanova 79, Xavier 54 — Kris Jenkins and Josh Hart each scored 20 points and the No. 3 Wildcats (161, 4-1 Big East) beat the No. 15 Musketeers (13-3, 3-1) in Villanova, Pa.

Kentucky 87, Vanderbilt 81 — Malik Monk scored six points in the final 32 seconds and the No. 6 Wildcats (14-2, 4-0) remained unbeaten in the SEC by holding off the Commodores (8-8, 2-2) in Nashville, Tenn.

Florida State 88, Duke 72 — In Tallahasse­e, Fla., Xavier Rathan-Mayes scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half, helping the No. 9 Seminoles (16-1, 4-0 ACC) take down the No. 7 Blue Devils (14-3, 2-2) for their schoolreco­rd 12th straight win.

Florida 80, Alabama 67 — Keith Stone scored 14 points and the No. 23 Gators (13-3, 4-0 SEC) forced 18 turnovers in beating the Crimson Tide (9-6, 2-1) in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Texas Tech 66, Kansas State 65 — Keenan Evans (18 points) made a go-ahead layup with 15 seconds left, helping the Red Raiders (133, 2-2 Big 12) tame the No. 25 Wildcats (13-3, 2-2) in Lubbock, Texas. In New England games: Harvard 70, McGill 45 — Corey Johnson scored 15 points and the Crimson (85) used a 45-23 advantage in the second half to beat the Montreal-based Redmen (12-8) at Lavietes Pavilion.

DePaul 64, Providence 63 — Billy Garrett Jr. scored seven of his 14 points in the final 28 seconds, and his three-point play with 4.7 seconds left lifted the Blue Demons (8-9, 1-3 Big East) beat the Friars (11-7, 1-4), who were led by Rodney Bullock’s 18 points.

Southern Conn. 89, Merrimack 65 — Jerry Luckett, Jr. had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Isaiah McLeod (seven 3-pointers) added 23 points and the Owls (12-4, 8-1 Northeast-10) crushed the Warriors (12-4, 7-3) in New Haven, Conn.

Lasell 95, Mount Ida 83 — Armin Omanovic (35 points) made 16-of-18 free throws, Tim Blair (31) hit eight 3-pointers and the host Lasers (9-4, 6-0 Great Northeast) zapped the Mustangs (8-5, 4-2) in Newton.

Women’s basketball

Uconn 102, South Florida 37 — Saniya Chong led six players in double figures with 20 points and the topranked Huskies (15-0, 2-0 American) tied their own NCAA record with their 90th consecutiv­e win, routing the No. 20 Bulls (13-2, 2-1) in Hartford.

Amherst 49, Farmingdal­e State 33 — Ali Doswell scored 11 points and the Lord Jeffs (13-0), the No. 2 team in Division 3, held the Rams (5-6) to 21 percent shooting in Farmingdal­e, N.Y.

Men’s hockey

Providence 3, Yale 1 — Josh Wilkins scored the game-winner late in the second period, Brian Pinho added two assists and the Friars (9-7-4) beat the Bulldogs (6-7-2) in New Haven, Conn.

Women’s hockey

Boston College 3, Harvard 1— Erin Connolly scored twice as the No. 6 Eagles (14-3-4) soared past the Crimson (1-11-2) at Fenway Park.

UConn 2, BU 1 — Kayla Mee and Catherine Crawley scored in the third period to help the Huskies (11-8-3, 6-51 Hockey East) rally past the No. 10 Terriers (12-8-2, 7-7-1) in Storrs, Conn.
