Harvard bounces back to beat Bryant

Chris Lewis had 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting, Bryce Aiken scored 14 more and the Harvard men’s basketball team held off Bryant last night in Smithfield, R.I., to get its third straight win, 7065, in nonconfere­nce play.

Leading by 14 at the break, the Crimson (9-5) had to scramble in the second half as the Bulldogs (5-13) chipped away. Bryant cut the margin to single digits on back-to-back 3’s from Bosko Kostur to make it 59-54, and later pulled into striking distance with a pair of free throws from Ikenna Ndugba to trail 66-65 with 19 seconds left. But Harvard’s Siyani Chambers and Lewis each went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to clinch the win.

Chambers and Seth Towns finished with 13 points each for Harvard, which forced 18 turnovers.

Sabastian Townes led Bryant with 17 points, Kostur finished with 16 points and Ndugba had 14.

Loyola (Md.) 77, BU 69 — In Baltimore, Andre Walker tied the program record with nine made 3-pointers and finished with 35 points, Jarred Jones and Cam Gregory each had a double-double and the Greyhounds (9-8, 3-3 Patriot) beat the Terriers (10-8, 5-1), who were led by Eric Fanning’s 27 points and 13 rebounds.

Providence 74, Georgetown 56 — In Washington, Rodney Bullock went for 22 points, and Kyron Cartwright had 16 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists, as the Friars (15-7, 3-4 Big East) got out to a 15-point lead by halftime and cruised to the victory against the Hoyas (10-9, 1-5).

Vermont 71, New Hampshire 59 — In Durham, N.H., Trae Bell-Haynes made 8-of10 shots and scored 22 points to help the Catamounts (15-5, 5-0 America East) to a seventh straight win, against the Wildcats (11-7, 2-2), who got 21 points from Daniel Dion and 20 from Tanner Leissner.

Stony Brook 86, UMass-Lowell 75 — Tyrell Sturdivant was 10-of-12 from the field on his way to 28 points to help the Seawolves (9-8, 4-0 America East) overcome the host River Hawks (8-11, 3-2), whose Tyler Livingston hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points.

Hartford 54, Maine 44 — In West Hartford, Conn., Jalen Ross scored 19 points, Jason Dunne added 10 and the Hawks (6-13, 1-3 America East) never trailed to snap a five-game losing streak with the win against the Black Bears (5-15, 1-4).

Mount Ida 72, St. Joseph’s (Maine) 61 — In Standish, Maine, Joey DeFillippi’s 14 points led a balanced attack as the Mustangs (11-5, 7-2 GNAC) knocked off the Monks (7-8, 4-4).

Johnson & Wales 106, Anna Maria 71 — In Paxton, Anthony Jernigan had 30 points on 10-for-17 shooting to lead the Wildcats (6-8, 6-2 GNAC) by the Amcats (3-13, 3-6).

Emmanuel 71, Rivier 66 — In Nashua, N.H., Joe Tamburro’s 24 points, including three 3’s, paced the Saints (3-12, 2-7 GNAC) in a win against the Raiders (1-14, 0-8).

Pine Manor 104, Fitchburg St. 80 — The visiting Gators (10-5) downed the Falcons (68) behind 29 points from Taverick Roberson, and Rasheed Bell’s 20 and 10 rebounds. In the AP top 25: Villanova 76, Seton Hall 46 — In Villanova, Pa., Kris Jenkins scored 16 point, leading the way for the newly reinstalle­d No. 1 Wildcats (18-1, 6-1 Big East) in a rout of the Pirates (12-6, 2-4).

Kansas 76, Iowa St. 72 — Frank Mason III led with 16 points, Landen Lucas contribute­d 14 and the No. 2 Jayhawks (17-1, 6-0 Big 12) escaped with the win against the Cyclones (11-6, 3-3).

Creighton 72, Xavier 67 — In Cincinnati, Cole Huff’s big rebound and two free throws with 16.7 seconds left sent the No. 7 Bluejays (18-1, 5-1 Big East) past the No. 22 Musketeers (13-5, 3-3).

N. Carolina 85, Syracuse 68 — In Chapel Hill, N.C., Isaiah Hicks had 20 points in Roy Williams’ 800th coaching win and the No. 9 Tar Heels (17-3, 5-1 ACC) beat the Orange (11-8, 3-3).

Butler 88, Marquette 80 — In Indianapol­is, Kelan Martin’s 22 points helped the No. 13 Bulldogs (16-3, 5-2 Big East) rally past the Golden Eagles (12-6, 3-3).
