No. 3 BU powers up to topple Maine

Bobo Carpenter scored the gamewinner on the power play with 7:50 remaining, lifting No. 3 Boston University past Maine, 4-1, last night in Hockey East action at Agganis Arena. Blaine Byron gave the Black Bears (8-12-3, 2-8-1) the lead late in the first period but goals from Clayton Keller, Carpenter, Jordan Greenway and Nikolas Olsson paced the Terriers (14-5-2, 8-2-2).

Jake Oettinger made 13 saves in the win.

Harvard 3, Brown 0 — Merrick Madsen stopped 26 shots and the No. 6 Crimson (12-5-1, 8-4-1 ECAC) blanked the Bears (3-14-1, 2-9-0) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Northeaste­rn 4, Merrimack 1 — Ryan Ruck registered 33 saves and the Huskies (8-10-5, 2-8-3 HE) dropped the Warriors (8-12-3, 2-6-3) at Matthews Arena.

Providence 4, UMass-Lowell 3 — Vincent Desharnais netted the gamewinner midway through the third as the visiting Friars (11-8-4, 3-6-2 Hockey East) edged the No. 5 River Hawks (156-3, 7-4-1).

UMass-Boston 7, Skidmore 2 — Nolan Redler registered three goals and two assists as the Beacons (10-7-2, 5-5-1 NEHC) belted the Thoroughbr­eds (79-2, 6-4-1) in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Women’s hockey

Boston College 3, Vermont 2 — Makenna Newkirk scored 39 seconds into OT, lifting the No. 6 Eagles (17-34, 13-2-2 Hockey East) over the Catamounts (10-8-7, 6-4-5) in Burlington, Vt.

Northeaste­rn 3, UConn 2 — McKenna Brand notched the game-winner as NU (14-9-3, 10-7-2 Hockey East) edged UConn (11-11-3, 6-8-1) in Storrs, Conn.

Harvard 3, Brown 1 — Ali Peper recorded the game-winner and the Crimson (3-13-2, 3-8-2 ECAC) topped the Bears (4-16-0, 2-11-0) in Providence.

Men’s basketball

Tufts 77, Wesleyan 73 — KJ Garrett netted 16 points to lead the No. 4 Jumbos (14-2, 5-0 NESCAC) over the No. 24 Cardinals (14-4, 2-3) in Medford.

Women’s basketball

Delaware 65, Northeaste­rn 53 — Francesca Sally scored 14 points but the Huskies (6-12, 2-4 CAA) fell to the Blue Hens (9-8, 3-3) in Newark, Del.
