BC High rallies late to tie CM

Two goals in the game’s final 2:01 allowed BC High to forge a 2-2 tie with Catholic Memorial in a Catholic Conference boys hockey encounter yesterday at UMass-Boston’s Clark Athletic Center.

“I’m proud of the way they responded,” Eagles coach John Flaherty said. “We could have packed it in and felt sorry for ourselves, but we didn’t.”

The Eagles (7-1-3) had a multitude of chances in the first period, but Knights goaltender Brendan Clancy was on his game. He made six saves in the frame on his way to 24 for the day. The CM defense also proved its mettle, as it was able to neutralize BC High’s possession domination.

The second period opened with Clancy making three quick saves, and the Knights (7-1-2) then moved the puck into the offensive zone for a goal. Maceo Patrick snagged a pass from Jackson Dobek four minutes in and converted past Eagles goalie Luke Garrity for the 1-0 advantage.

BC High held possession through much of the rest of the frame, taking its time in the offensive zone, but Clancy and the defense were up to the challenge.

Early in the third period, Eagles defenseman Sean Healy broke up a pass to thwart what was developing into an excellent Knights scoring bid. However, a Harry Morrill slapper a few minutes later gave the Knights a 2-0 lead.

As the clock was winding down, BC High decided to pull Garrity for the extra attacker — and the move paid off. With just 2:01 left, Danny O’Connell scored through traffic to get the Eagles on the board. Then, 47 seconds remaining Thomas Kramer tied the game with a slapper past Clancy.

“CM is a great team,” Flaherty said. “They are wellcoached and they are playing really well right now. The fact that we were able to come back from a twogoal deficit on them, it’s good for our team.”
