NU women topple UNCW

Francesca Sally recorded 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Northeaste­rn to a 55-47 win over UNC-Wilmington yesterday in women’s basketball action at the Cabot Center.

The Huskies (7-12, 3-4 CAA) jumped out to a 14-3 lead after one quarter and held on for the win over the Seahawks (6-12, 1-6).

Claudia Ortiz led NU with 15 points, while Madison Raque scored a game-high 20 for UNCW.

Duke 67, Boston College 44 — Kelly Hughes netted 14 points but the Blue Devils (17-3, 5-2) drilled the Eagles (8-12, 1-6) at Conte Forum.

UConn 100, Tulane 56 — Katie Lou Samuelson scored 32 points and the top-ranked Huskies (18-0, 6-0 AAC) extended their record winning streak to 93 games with a rout of the Green Wave (12-7, 3-3).

Men’s basketball

UMBC 102, UMass-Lowell 86 — Will Darley scored 28 points and the Retrievers (13-6, 4-2 America East) dogged the host River Hawks (8-13, 3-4).

Jahad Thomas had 22 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for UML.

New Hampshire 81, Hartford 56 — Jaleen Smith’s 27 points helped the Wildcats (13-7, 4-2 America East) hammer the Hawks (6-15, 1-5) in West Hartford, Conn.

UConn 72, East Carolina 65 — Jalen Adams’ 19 points helped the Huskies (8-11, 3-4 AAC) strand the Piras (9-11, 1-6) in Hartford.

Monmouth 91, Fairfield 49 — In West Long Branch, N.J., Justin Robinson scored 12 of his 20 points in the first half and the Hawks (16-5, 8-2 MAAC) routed the Stags (8-10, 3-6) for their sixth straight win.

Bradford’s Tyler Nelson scored 11 points for Fairfield.

Washington U. 88, Brandeis 61 — Jordan Cooper scored 23 points but the Judges (6-9, 2-3 UAA) fell to the No. 11 Bears (13-3, 5-0) in St. Louis. In top 25 action: Xavier 86, Georgetown 75 — In Cincinnati, J.P. Macura scored 20 points and the No. 22 Musketeers (14-5, 4-3) stopped the Hoyas (10-10, 1-6), ending Xavier’s longest losing streak in three years at three.

Women’s hockey

Boston University 5, Providence 2— Nina Rodgers logged two goals and the Terriers (13-8-5, 8-62 Hockey East) dropped the Friars (12-12-2, 7-7-2) at Brown Arena.
