Plymouth Chamber honors longtime community leader
A longtime champion of services to those in need — who helped build and expand the South Shore Community Action Council — was honored yesterday by the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce.
Pat Daly, who rose from Head Start director to executive director of the SSCAC, was named Business Person of the Year.
“There isn’t a town in the chamber’s region that has not benefited from her leadership and vision,” Kevin O’Reilly, executive director of the Plymouth Area Chamber, said of Daly, who is retiring. Daly’s projects have included everything from food pantries and fuel assistance to early childhood education and adult medical transportation.
More than 350 business, community and government leaders attended the chamber’s annual lunch meeting at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston.
Herald Editor-in-Chief Joe Sciacca gave the keynote address, focusing on the challenges and opportunities ahead for the news media.
Sciacca told the crowd that industry disruption is creating a period of media reinvention and innovation — while sliding public confidence in news reporting must lead to a “back to basics” approach to accuracy and balance in journalism.
“Today’s newsroom is an exciting multimedia laboratory as we learn to enhance the reach and the power of our journalism,” Sciacca said. “But we need to redouble our efforts at accountability to regain public trust in the work we do.”
The chamber also honored Rick Carlson, founder and president of carlson Creative, a marketing firm based in Cataumet, as Ambassador of the Year.
