No. 2 Kansas rallies past No. 4 Kentucky

Frank Mason III scored 21 points, Josh Jackson had 20 points — including a pair of big 3-pointers — and No. 2 Kansas rallied past No. 4 Kentucky, 79-73, yesterday in Lexington, Ky., in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge.

Kansas (19-2) shook off an 0-for-8 effort in the first half from long range to make 5-of-11 after halftime, with Jackson’s consecutiv­e treys starting things for the Jayhawks. Overall, Kansas shot 59 percent in the second half. Jackson had 10 rebounds. Malik Monk and Derek Willis each had 18 points for Kentucky (17-4), which dropped its second straight. Gonzaga 96, Pepperdine 49 — In Malibu, Calif., the No. 3 Bulldogs (22-0, 10-0 West Coast), in position to potentiall­y move up to the top spot when The Associated Press’ new poll is released tomorrow, assumed control early on the way to the rout of the Waves (6-16, 2-8), with Przemek Karnowski leading

the way on the scoresheet with 16 points.

Syracuse 82, Florida St. 72 — In Syracuse, N.Y., Andrew White scored 24 points, John Gillon contribute­d 21 and matched his career high with 11 assists, and the Orange (139, 5-4 ACC) upended the No. 6 Seminoles (18-4, 6-3) for their first victory against a team ranked in the AP Top 25 this season. Miami 77, N. Carolina 62 — In Coral Gables, Fla., freshman Bruce Brown needed only 11 shots for 30 points, and the Hurricanes (14-6, 4-4 ACC) deployed a swarming zone defense to upset the No. 9 Tar Heels (19-4, 7-2), whose point total came in at 27 below their average. Colorado 74, Oregon 65 — In Boulder, Colo., Derrick White put up 23 points and the Buffaloes (12-10, 2-7 Pac12 ) won both the rebounding and turnover battles to roam past the No. 10 Ducks (19-3, 8-1), who received a 19-point performanc­e from Payton Pritchard. Georgetown 85, Butler 81 — In Indianapol­is, L.J. Peak scored 22 points and Jessie Govan beat the shot clock with a key 3-pointer with 1:03 left that put his total at 20, helping the Hoyas (12-10, 3-6 Big East) top the No. 11

— In New York, Ethan Happ scored seven of his 32 points in overtime and the No. 15 Badgers (18-3, 7-1 Big Ten) overcame offensive struggles to knock off the Scarlet Knights (12-10, 1-8) at Madison Square Garden. Creighton 83, DePaul 66 — In Omaha, Neb., Khyri Thomas scored 18 points and Marcus Foster added 15 in a balanced attack that helped the No. 16 Bluejays (19-3, 6-3 Big East) cruise by the Blue Demons (8-13, 1-7). Duke 85, Wake Forest 83 — In Winston-Salem, N.C., Luke Kennard finished with 34 points and hit a 3-pointer with 6.6 seconds left, pushing the No. 17 Blue Devils (16-5, 4-4 ACC) past the Demon Deacons (12-9, 3-6).

77 — In Morgantown, W. Va., Jevon Carter had 19 points to lead the No. 18 Mountainee­rs (17-4) to the victory against the Aggies (11-9) in the Big 12-SEC Challenge. Maryland 85, Minnesota 78 — Justin Jackson had 28 points, going 5-for-5 on 3’s, and 10 rebounds, and the No. 22 Terps (19-2, 7-1 Big Ten) beat the Gophers (15-7, 3-6). S. Carolina 63, Missouri 53 — In Columbia, S.C., Sindarius Thornwell’s 16 points and 11 rebounds powered the No. 23 Gamecocks (17-4, 7-1 SEC) past the Tigers (5-15, 0-8). Florida 84, Oklahoma 52 — In Norman, Okla., Kevarrius Hayes’ 20 points paced the No. 25 Gators (16-5) in a rout of the Sooners (8-12) in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
