Williams’ 23 points help NU stop skid

T.J. Williams scored 23 points and made a career-high 13-of-20 free throws and Northeaste­rn rallied to beat Towson, 69-62, last night to end a four-game skid at Matthews Arena.

Alex Murphy scored 16 points for the Huskies (13-9, 6-4 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n), who made 25-of-36 free throws and held the Tigers (13-10, 5-5) to 37.7 percent from the field.

Williams tied it 35-35 with a free throw, but Deshaun Morman’s 3-pointer put Towson up 40-35 in the second half. Alex Murphy hit back-to-back 3-pointers, Bolden Brace added a third, and NU used a 15-5 run to lead 54-47. Towson got three straight stops and closed to 59-55 on Brian Starr’s layup with 1:28 left, but NU sealed it with 10 free throws in the final 1:11. Vermont 71, Stony Brook 64 — Ernie Duncan scored 22 points shooting 6-of-8 from 3-point range to help the Catamounts (18-5, 8-0 America East) beat the Seawolves (11-10, 6-2) in Stony Brook, N.Y.

George Mason 76, UMass 74 — Otis Livingston II scored 22 points, Jalen Jenkins added 15 and tied his career best with 12 rebounds, and the Patriots (14-7, 4-4 Atlantic 10) held off the Minutemen (12-10, 2-7) in Amherst. URI 71, St. Bonaventur­e 59 — Hassan Martin scored 20 points, hitting 9-of-12 from the floor, while grabbing eight rebounds and swatting away four shots to lead the Rams (13-7, 5-3 A-10) to a victory over the Bonnies (13-7, 5-3) in Kingston, R.I. — Jairus Lyles scored 28 points and the go-ahead free throw in the second overtime, Rodney Elliott added 22 points, and the Retrievers (14-7, 5-3 America East) beat the Wildcats (14-8, 5-3) in Baltimore.

Tanner Leissner scored 36 points and Iba Camara added 23 points for the Wildcats. UMass-Lowell 97, Fisher 73 — Rinardo Perry scored a careerhigh 16 points, Tyler Livingston added 13, and the River Hawks (9-14) made 15-of-30 from behind the arc to beat the NAIA-member Falcons (14-8) in Lowell and snap a four-game skid.

Columbia 65, Harvard 62 — Nate Hickman and Jeff Coby scored 13 points apiece and the Lions (9-8, 3-1 Ivy League) held on to defeat the Crimson (11-6, 3-1) in New York. Cornell 75, Dartmouth 62 — Matt Morgan scored 22 points and the Big Red (6-13, 2-2 Ivy) beat the Big Green (3-14, 0-4) in Ithaca, N.Y. Navy 60, Holy Cross 47 — Shawn Anderson scored 15 points and had a career-high six steals, and the Midshipmen (12-10, 7-3 Patriot League) cruised to a victory over the Crusaders (11-12, 5-5) in Annapolis, Md.

Fairfield 72, Marist 62 — Tyler Nelson of Bradford had 21 points as the Stags (9-10, 4-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) beat the Red Foxes (6-16, 3-8) in Fairfield, Conn. Bryant 73, Fairleigh Dickinson 72 — Nisre Zouzoua had 25 points including a jumper with four seconds left to give the Bulldogs (815, 5-5 Northeast Conference) an overtime victory over the Knights (10-11, 8-2) in Smithfield, R.I.

Babson 78, Emerson 42 — Bradley Jacks scored a game-best 16 points and Sam Bohmiller of Franklin added 15 as the topranked Beavers (18-1, 8-0) defeated the Lions (4-15, 0-8) in Babson Park.

Bates 84, Tufts 72 — Marcus Delpeche scored a game-high 28 points in an upset win for the Bobcats (14-6, 4-3 NESCAC) over the fourth-ranked Jumbos (16-3, 6-1) in Lewiston, Maine.

UConn 91, Houston 42 — Gabby Williams scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the top-ranked Huskies (20-0, 8-0 American Athletic Conference) to their 95th straight win, a rout of the Cougars (8-13, 1-7) in Hartford, Conn. VCU 55, UMass 52 — Isis Thorpe had 10 points with five assists

Tufts 73, Bates 44 — Melissa Baptista had 22 points for the top-ranked Jumbos (20-0, 7-0 NESCAC) in a win over the Bobcats (5-13, 2-5) in Medford.

Amherst 85, Trinity 44 — Meredith Doswell totaled 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, a block plus four steals to lead the second-ranked Purple and White (20-0, 7-0 NESCAC) to victory against the Bantams (11-7, 2-4) in Hartford, Conn.
