Scituate scores late to tie Hanover

- By GREG DUDEK Matt Feld, Marcello Rossetti and Brian Roach contributed to this report.

It was a clash of two hockey powers trying to gain supremacy of the Patriot League Fisher Division. But both Hanover and

Scituate had to share the spoils yesterday.

In a back-and-forth third period with a flurry of momentum swings and scoring chances, neither team could gain an advantage long enough to secure a win and settled for a 4-4 tie at Hobomock Arena in Pembroke.

“Scituate always gives us a tough, tough game,” said Hanover coach Jon Abban. “It was a great game tonight.”

Scituate (12-1-1, 7-1-1), which came into the contest riding an 11-game winning streak, wasted no time getting an action-packed third period started. Tommy Marhoffer scored from the point for the Sailors just 26 seconds into the frame to level the score, 2-2.

Hanover (9-2-2, 7-1-1) responded 3:24 later as Zach Taylor turned in a sensational effort to net his second goal and put the Indians back in front, 3-2.

The Sailors regrouped quickly, though. Liam Walsh picked the top right-hand corner 31 seconds after Taylor’s tally to retie it. But Hanover came up with another answer when Ryan Mahoney knocked in a rebound to retake the lead, 4-3, with 8:50 left to play.

The Indians seemed on their way to the win until Mike Norton rocketed a shot off a faceoff to tie it for the Sailors with 3:11 left.

“They came out (in the third period) and played really well,” said Scituate coach Mike Breen. “I was really happy for them. Trying to put it together at the end was unbelievable.”
