Bill Belichick — love him or hate him, you have to respect his vision, drive and dedication to winning. Why does he win so many games? He has a plan — a game plan. He defines a goal and analyzes what tools he has, what things he needs to do, and visualizes how to attain that goal.
Choosing a new career is a lot like crafting an NFL game plan. You have to have a clear idea of what you want — your goal. Then you need to figure out what tools you’ll need — your skills — and determine how you’ll get those tools — choosing your school.
As part of setting your goal, you should be looking for a field that is stable, first of all. You don’t want to spend your money for a career where you can’t find work. Look for one that’s wellpaying. After all, you do need to support yourself and your family. You should also seek a career that is challenging and that you will enjoy. The challenging part keeps you interested and the enjoyment part keeps you motivated. There is nothing worse than going to a job every day that you hate. Finding work that you enjoy doing will bring you much happiness. In addition, we’ve used the same entrance exam for over 30 years, and it will tell us if you are suited for the course you want.
Choosing a school can be confusing. It may seem like all schools promise you that new career and you need to make sure the school you want can deliver. Ask about their history and their completion and placement percentages, and then compare this information with other schools. Think about whether you did better in bigger or smaller classes, and whether smaller is right for you.

In our Major Appliance/ Basic Electricity course, you’ll learn about electricity and how it works; you’ll learn how to read a wiring diagram and how to use it to diagnose problems. You will work on real washers, dryers, dishwashers, microwave ovens and other appliances as you learn how to repair them.
Bay State’s Domestic Refrigeration & Air Conditioning course covers the basics of refrigeration theory in terms of home refrigerators and air conditioners. You will learn about all the major components of a refrigerator and actually put them together to make your own fully functional unit from scratch. In addition, we will prepare you for EPA 608 and PSA onsite testing and certification.
Commercial HVACR will immerse you in the basics of larger refrigeration and cooling units, ductless split systems, electronic controls, ice machines, heat pumps and more. This program prepares you to work in the commercial side of the industry and provides 100 hours of Massachusetts Refrigeration Code and 150 hours of Massachusetts Electrical Codes.
Our Electronics Technician course features instruction in electricity, elementary electronics, digital and analog theory, microprocessors, personal computers and networking, wireless communications, renewable energy and more.
