Travelers arriving at Logan International Airport will be welcomed to the Hub with snapshots of the city’s rich history thanks to a new exhibit featuring iconic Boston Herald front pages.

It was a visit to the Herald newsroom that inspired Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn to design the exhibit, which is now on display in the recently renovated Terminal E and showcases Herald headlines

ranging from Babe Ruth’s stint with the Boston Red Sox to President John F. Kennedy’s time in the Oval Office.

“Walking through the hallway, I noticed that the Herald had a display like this, with famous headlines from the history of the Herald,” Glynn said yesterday. “So I asked them if we could borrow their idea and put it up in the airport.”

Glynn said he hopes the exhibit leaves travelers with a lasting impression of the city, even if they never get the opportunity to leave the airport. “We wanted people to be able to see the city of Boston, which is so beautiful,” he said, “and we wanted people to get a little bit of a sense of the past and future of Boston.” And when it came time to pick out the front pages for the exhibit, Glynn said there was no shortage of memorable Boston moments to choose from. “There are a lot of exciting things going on in the city these days so we have a lot of things to pick from,” he said. “I think people who aren’t as familiar with all of the history of Boston will learn from walking around and just looking at the history that the headlines represent.” Glynn was quick to point out the new exhibit isn’t stagnant, and officials plan on rotating in new front pages in the years to come. And though there’s no telling what the future will hold for the city, Glynn said there’s one front page he’s especially eager to hang on the wall.

“When the Patriots win the Super Bowl, obviously that will be one that we’ll want to have to add,” he said with a laugh.

Terminal E, which primarily serves international flights, will see an average of 6 million passengers a year by 2022, Massport officials say.

In addition to the new exhibit, new upgrades include a pedestrian connection to Terminal C and aesthetic touches.

And though the new exhibit complements the clean interior design and offers travelers from around the globe a quick taste of what it means to live in Boston, Glynn stressed: “It really all started with a trip to the Herald.”
