Trump’s last revenge?

-

Trump Derangement Syndrome is reaching a near-fever pitch.

Now those who dislike the man elected in November have every right to find some other place to play golf or book a room than some place adorned with the Trump name. It is a free country, after all.

Those who have extended their boycott to Ivanka Trumplabeled frocks, well, somehow she’ll get by too. And bargain hunters without political issues should know the merchandise may be coming soon to an outlet mall near you.

But now the very event that — legend has it — spawned the Trump presidential candidacy might be endangered.

Yes, the White House Correspondents Dinner, otherwise known as the Nerd Prom, where in 2011 President Obama eviscerated Trump, who was a guest in the audience, seems to be floundering.

This is the annual event at which journalists and politicians dress up in their finest and pretend to like each other — at least for the evening. It’s one of those too-cozy D.C. affairs that has long made some serious journalists squeamish.

But now the New Yorker, which always threw a pre-dinner party, and Vanity Fair, which cohosted the fanciest after-party in town, have opted out.

The White House Correspondents Association says the April dinner, where the main event is usually a stand-up comedy routine by the president, is still on and will be a celebration of “the First Amendment and the role an independent press plays in a healthy republic.”

So here’s to that!
