No. 2 Baylor loses 1st

Kamau Stokes scored 15 points and Kansas State held off a late rally to hand No. 2 Baylor its first home loss of the season, 56-54, yesterday in Waco, Texas.

Stokes made both of the Wildcats’ field goals in the final 6:29, including a baseline jumper with 1:40 to go off an inbounds pass with one second left on the shot clock that made it 55-51.

Baylor’s Johnathan Motley missed two shots in the final seconds with a chance to tie the game, the latter of which was blocked by D.J. Johnson of the Wildcats (16-7, 5-5 Big 12) as time ran out and the Bears (20-3, 7-3) lost their second straight game. Iowa St. 92, Kansas 89 — In Lawrence, Kan., Deonte Burton hit seven 3-pointers and scored 29 points, Monte Morris added 25 and Naz Mitrou-Long 22 as the Cyclones (14-8, 6-4 Big 12) won in overtime against the No. 3 Jayhawks (20-3, 8-2).

Frank Mason III had 32 points for Kansas. Villanova 92, St. John’s 79 — In Philadelph­ia, Josh Hart had 26 points and nine rebounds, Donte DiVincenzo scored 20 points and the No. 4 Wildcats (22-2, 9-2 Big East) ran away from the Red Storm (11-14, 5-7), who have lost 14 in a row in the series.

Oregon 85, Arizona 58

— Tyler Dorsey scored 23 points, including six 3-pointers, Dillon Brooks added 18 points and four 3’s, and the No. 13 Ducks (21-3, 10-1 Pac12) hit 16 treys overall and led by as many as 37 to rout the No. 5 Wildcats (21-3, 10-1). Oklahoma St. 82, W. Virginia 75 — In Morgantown, W. Va., Phil Forte scored all 13 of his points in the second half, including nine in the final five minutes, to lead the Cowboys (15-8, 4-6 Big 12) past the No. 7 Mountainee­rs (18-5, 6-4). Florida 88, Kentucky 66 — In Gainesvill­e, Fla., Kasey Hill led the way with 21 points, Devin Robinson added 16 and the No. 24 Gators (18-5, 8-2 SEC) ended a five-game losing streak against the No. 8 Wildcats (18-5, 8-2). Syracuse 66, Virginia 62 — In Syracuse, N.Y., Tyus Battle and Andrew White scored 23 points and the Orange (15-9. 7-4 ACC) upended the No. 9 Cavaliers (17-5, 7-3) for their second win over a ranked foe in as many Saturdays. Cincinnati 82, Connecticu­t 68 — Kyle Washington scored 27 points, Gary Clark had his fifth double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and the host No. 14 Bearcats (21-2, 10-0 American) downed the Huskies (10-12, 5-5). Purdue 73, Maryland 72 — In College Park, Md., Carsen Edwards made two free throws with 2.1 seconds left, Caleb Swanigan scored 26 points and the No. 23 Boilermake­rs (19-5, 8-3) rallied by the No. 17 Terps (20-3, 8-2). St. Mary’s 71, San Diego 27 — Calvin Hermanson and Jock Landale had 14 points apiece and the No. 18 Gaels (21-2, 11-1 West Coast) blew by the host Toreros (11-13, 4-8), who managed just nine points in the first half. South Carolina 77, Georgia 75 — In Columbia, S.C., PJ Dozier scored seven of his 21 points in the final 2:21, Sindarius Thornwell had 18 and the No. 19 Gamecocks (19-4, 9-1 SEC) beat the Bulldogs (13-10, 4-6).

Duke 72, Pitt 64 — In Durham, N.C., Grayson Allen’s 21 points helped the No. 21 Blue Devils (18-5, 6-4 ACC) beat the Panthers (12-11, 1-9) in coach Mike Krzyzewski’s return from back surgery. Xavier 82, Creighton 80 — In Omaha, Neb., J.P. Macura had 13 of his 15 points in the second half, and the Musketeers (17-6, 7-3 Big East) stuck together to down the No. 22 Bluejays (20-4, 7-4).
