Fanning, BU storm past Lafayette

Eric Fanning scored nine of his 11 points in the second half including the first five of a 13-0 run after the break to start Boston University on its way to a 75-58 victory over Lafayet te yesterday in men’s basketball at Case Gym.

Fanning made five free throws to open the half and the Terriers (13-11, 8-4 Patriot League) led the rest of the way, leading by as many as 20 with under four minutes remaining.

Eric Johnson, Will Goff and Max Mahoney all had 12 points for BU. Fanning added nine rebounds and Foreman five assists.

The Terriers beat Lafayette, 91-75, on Jan. 8, when they made a school-record 18 3-pointers. BU made 11-of-27 3-point tries with Goff and Johnson sinking four each.

Nick Lindner scored 13 points and Kyle Stout and Paulius Zalys 11 apiece for the Leopards (6-17, 2-10), who have lost nine in a row.

Yale 78, Cornell 71 — Miye Oni registered 19 points and eight rebounds as the Bulldogs (13-6, 5-1 Ivy) dropped the Big Red (6-15, 2-4) in Ithaca, N.Y. The game was resumed after a power outage Saturday.

Rochester 78, Brandeis 51 — Jordan Cooper netted 19 points to eclipse 1,000 in his career but the Judges (712, 3-6 UAA) fell to the No. 5 Yellowjack­ets (19-1, 8-1) in Waltham.

Williams 100, Conn. College 63 — Daniel Aronowitz poured in 21 points and the Ephs (16-6, 4-4 NESCAC) drilled the Camels (12-9, 2-6) in Williamsto­wn. In top 25 action: Wisconsin 65, Indiana 60 — Ethan Happ scored 20 points, Nigel Hayes added 15 and 10 rebounds, and the No. 10 Badgers (20-3, 9-1 Big Ten) outmuscled the Hoosiers (15-9, 5-6) to hold on for a 65-60 win in Madison, Wis.

N. Carolina 83, Notre Dame 76 — In Greensboro, N.C., Justin Jackson scored 16 points to help the No. 12 Tar Heels (21-4, 9-2 ACC) topped the No. 20 Fighting Irish (177, 6-5) in a game postponed by a day and relocated from UNC’s campus in Chapel Hill as the result of a water shortage.

Florida St. 109, Clemson 61 — Dwayne Bacon netted 29 points as the No. 15 Seminoles (20-4, 8-3 ACC) rolled past the Tigers (13-9, 3-7) in Tallahasse­e, Fla.

Women’s basketball

Syracuse 72, Boston College 45 — Alexis Peterson netted 26 points as the No. 24 Orange (17-7, 8-3 ACC) squeezed the Eagles (8-16, 1-10) at Conte Forum.

James Madison 67, Northeaste­rn 49 — Precious Hall scored 29 points as the Dukes (16-6, 9-2 CAA) handled the Huskies (7-16, 3-8) at Cabot Center.

UConn 96, Tulsa 50 — In Storrs, Conn., Napheesa Collier scored 24 points to lead the top-ranked Huskies (220, 10-0 AAC) to their 97th consecutiv­e win as they pummeled the Golden Hurricane (8-15, 4-6).

Men’s hockey

Worcester St. 4, Framingham St. 1 — Alex DeWitz scored two goals and the host Lancers (7-10-3, 5-72 MASCAC) topped the Rams (2-18-0, 1-13-0).
