Bishop Feehan puts an emphasis on the first four minutes of the second half.

Last night the Shamrocks came out of halftime on fire against Coyle & Cassidy.

Bishop Feehan hit its first seven shots and held on late to defeat the Warriors, 56-48, in Eastern Athletic Conference girls basketball action in Taunton.

“We’re a tempo team,” Feehan coach Michael Deady said. “We got a lot of easy shots. I think we shocked them in the beginning of the second half. We were getting layups in transition, and we were just doing some tremendous things offensively.”

Ahead 30-21 at halftime, Bishop Feehan (12-2, 6-0) jumped all over Coyle (11-2, 5-2) after the break.

Marissa Fontaine (13 points) got the offense rolling with a jumper followed by baskets from Riley Lahiff (game-high 18 points) and Katie Nelson. The Shamrocks weren’t slowing down as Fontaine hit another shot, and Lahiff and Anna Shaughnessy scored two more buckets each for a 14-point run in the first 2:49 of the third quarter. The outburst gave Feehan a commanding 44-25 lead and capped a 25-7 run dating to the second quarter.

“I thought it was our best two minutes of basketball this year,” Deady said. “We smoked them. But to their credit, they came back. I thought they would fall over.”

The Shamrocks scored just two more points the rest of the quarter, and Coyle battled back behind Samantha Hourihan (17), cutting the deficit to 48-40. But Nelson (15 points, six rebounds, eight assists) hit 6-of-8 free throws in the final minute to ice the game. . . .
