Luxe looks heat up runways
NEW YORK — It's already been a whirlwind at New York Fashion Week, where things are heating up on the runways, despite the wild weather outside. Here are some of my favorite shows so far.
Christian Siriano continued his run of stunning the crowds with designs for women of all sizes. This time that came in the form of beautiful, billowy and flowing designs in rich velvets, bejeweled burgundy coats, ruched black cocktail dresses and slinky satin evening frocks.
Rebecca Minkoff's collection, meanwhile, was all about “California Love,” armed with sheer and flowery dresses — minis and full-length alike — as well as cute overalls and beaded denim culottes and sporty sweaters. All were extremely wearable but undeniably fun-loving. On the flip side were the slightly more serious takes on everyday sportswear at the Calvin Klein show: neatly pressed suits and blazers, prim tealength pencil skirts and neat trenches.
Alexander Wang hit some high notes with his collection of mostly black, geometric and asymmetric coats, denim jackets, flouncy miniskirts, and leggings and leather shorts. (The glen plaid bodysuits were a definite highlight.) At Taoray Wang, plenty of lace tanks, oversized and slouchy satin coats, belted trenches and double-breasted blazers that evoked the '80s dominated.
More dark tones took the spotlight at Pamella Roland's collection — a sumptuous mishmash of long velvet gowns and plunging necklines in rich garnet tones, leather pencil skirts with flirty stitching details on the slits, sweaters strewn with feathers and shimmery full skirts. It was a collection straight out of a fairy tale of pure opulence and fantasy.
