A Maynard man is being held without bail after cops accused him of leaving a homemade bomb on a man’s front porch.

William C. O’Neil, 51, was arraigned in Concord District Court yesterday where he pleaded not guilty to charges of placing an explosive device, and possession of an explosive device.

On Monday, a man spotted a suspicious package on his front porch about 10 a.m. and called police. Cops called in the state police Bomb Squad, which disassembled the device, police said.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan’s office said fingerprints taken from the device matched O’Neil’s.

“Maynard Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for O’Neil and a search warrant for his home,” police said. “Police arrested O’Neil at 5:30 a.m. (Tuesday) without incident at his home. Officers are currently in the process of executing the search warrant at his residence.”

Cops said they are looking at whether O’Neil might also be connected to a suspicious package found Oct. 29 on Walcott Street in Maynard.

Maynard police Chief Mark W. Dubois said both cases are under investigation.

Judge Timothy Gailey ordered O’Neil held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing set for tomorrow.
