Galchenyuk OT goal carries Canadiens

Alex Galchenyuk scored in overtime for the second straight night, Carey Price made 26 saves and the Canadiens beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 1-0, last night in Montreal to extend their win streak to three games.

Price got his third shutout this season. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 29 shots for the Blue Jackets, who had won two straight.

Montreal’s Max Pacioretty thought he scored 1:11 into overtime. The puck crossed the line on Pacioretty’s rebound, but the play was whistled dead, and a lengthy video review did not overturn the call.

With Columbus’ Seth Jones in the box for holding, Galchenyuk scored with a slap shot from the point that soared into the roof of the net at 3:53 of the extra period.

Also, the Canadiens acquired defenseman Brandon Davidson from Edmonton for forward David Desharnais, and forward Steve Ott from Detroit for a 2018 sixth-round pick. The Blue Jackets signed 36-year-old defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron.

Capitals 4, Rangers 1 — Marcus Johansson had two goals and an assist as Washington beat host New York in Kevin Shattenkir­k’s first game with the Capitals.

Brett Connolly and Nicklas Backstrom also scored and Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots as the NHL-best Capitals gave Barry Trotz his 700th career victory. Evgeny Kuznetzov and Matt Niskanen had two assists each.

Shattenkir­k, acquired from St. Louis on Monday night, had four shots on goal in 17:57 of ice time.

Brady Skjei scored in the first period and Henrik Lundqvist had 34 saves as the Rangers lost for the second time in three days on home ice after going 5-0-1 in their previous six at Madison Square Garden.

Also, the Rangers traded a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 third-rounder to Detroit for defenseman Brendan Smith.

Sharks 3, Maple Leafs 1 — Tomas Hertl scored the tiebreakin­g goal with 1:24 remaining and host San Jose beat Toronto for the ninth straight time.

The Sharks also acquired forward Jannik Hansen from the Vancouver Canucks for prospect Nikolay Goldobin and a conditiona­l draft pick.

Predators 5, Sabres 4 — Filip Forsberg scored 2:45 into overtime and Nashville rallied to beat host Buffalo for its fourth straight win.

Panthers 3, Hurricanes 2— In Sunrise, Fla., Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau scored in the shootout and Florida beat Carolina.

Wild 6, Jets 5 — Jason Zucker scored a shorthande­d goal with 2:10 left to play to lift Minnesota over host Winnipeg.

Oilers 2, Blues 1 — Milan Lucic and Mark Letestu scored and Cam Talbot made 25 saves as visiting Edmonton beat St. Louis.

Flyers 4, Avalanche 0 — Wayne Simmonds scored two first-period goals, Steve Mason made 32 saves and host Philadelph­ia beat Colorado.

Stars 3, Penguins 2 — Antoine Roussel capped Dallas’ three-goal third period and host Dallas rallied past Pittsburgh.

Flames 2, Kings 1 — TJ Brodie scored on a breakaway 1:47 into overtime, lifting host Calgary over Los Angeles, which had goalie Ben Bishop making his debut with the team.

Red Wings 3, Canucks 2 — Justin Abdelkader scored a power play goal with 2:29 left in overtime and visiting Detroit, which squandered a 2-0 first-period lead, edged Vancouver.

Elsewhere in the NHL — The Chicago Blackhawks reacquired defenseman Johnny Oduya, who left in free agency for the Dallas Stars after being part of two Stanley Cup championsh­ips. Dallas traded Oduya for forward Mark McNeill and a fourthroun­d pick in the 2018 draft. The Blackhawks also agreed to one-year contract extensions with defenseman Michal Rozsival and forward Jordin Tootoo. ...

Ottawa acquired forward Viktor Stalberg from Carolina for a draft pick.
