Frosh helps Duke end 2-game skid

Freshman Frank Jackson scored a season-best 22 points and No. 17 Duke beat No. 15 Florida State, 75-70, last night in Durham, N.C.

Amile Jefferson, playing in his final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, added 14 points and 11 rebounds while Luke Kennard finished with 17 points for the Blue Devils (23-7, 11-6 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Jayson Tatum added 15 points for Duke, which held FSU 14 points below its scoring average to snap a twogame skid that cost the Blue Devils a top-10 ranking.

Dwayne Bacon scored 19 points and Xavier RathanMaye­s had 15 for the Seminoles (23-7, 11-6), who had their two-game winning streak snapped.

Florida State pulled to 71-63 on Bacon’s free throw with 2:23 to play before Tatum countered with a jumper to put Duke up by 10 points.

Jackson then rebounded Jonathan Isaac’s missed 3-pointer and Duke went to work on the clock, with Tatum grabbing a key rebound of his own miss to help the Blue Devils keep the ball away from the Seminoles until there were about 50 seconds remaining.

Kentucky 73, Vanderbilt 63 — In Lexington, Ky., Malik Monk scored 20 points in the second half, including 10 in the final 3:40, as the No. 9 Wildcats (25-5, 15-2) rallied from a 13-point deficit and held off the Commodores (16-14, 9-8) to clinch a share of the Southeaste­rn Conference regular season title.

Bam Adebayo added 16 points and De’Aaron Fox had 13 after a one-game absence with a knee injury.

Luke Kornet had 21 points and Joe Toye added 15 for Vanderbilt, which had its four-game winning streak stopped.

Purdue 86, Indiana 75 — In West Lafayette, Ind., Dakota Mathias scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half and Caleb Swanigan added 17 of his 21 in the second to lead the No. 16 Boilermake­rs (246, 13-4) past the Hoosiers (1614, 6-11) for a share of the Big Ten title.

Purdue broke a tie with their rival by claiming a record 23rd conference title, and has won seven of eight to clinch the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

James Blackmon Jr. scored 16 points for Indiana, which has lost eight of 10.

Iowa State 86, Oklahoma State 83 — In Ames, Iowa, senior Matt Thomas scored 25 points and the No. 24 Cyclones (20-9, 12-5 Big 12) held off a furious rally by the Cowboys (20-10, 9-8) to close out their home schedule with their sixth straight win.

Men's hockey

Salem State 1, Westfield State 0 — Winger John Needham scored four minutes into the second period, and Jason Pucciarell­i made that slim lead stand up by stopping all 19 shots he faced as the Vikings (14-9-3) beat the Owls (11-15-0) in a MASCAC semifinal in Salem.

Plymouth State 7, Fitchburg State 1 — Ryan Stevens had two goals and an assist, and Victor Bergstrom added a goal and two assist as the Panthers (19-5-2) blasted the Falcons (11-15-1) in Plymouth, N.H. to advance to Saturday’s MASCAC final.
