For the opening 30 minutes of the Division 2 North first-round matchup against Pentucket, seventh-seeded Lincoln-Sudbury was stymied by Sachems goaltender Anthony Orlando.

The final 15 minutes were a different story, however. Jack Reading broke through for the first goal of the night and John Oblak scored the eventual winner to give L-S a 3-1 triumph over the 10thseeded Sachems last night at Chelmsford Forum in Billerica.

“It’s tough when you come out that hot and don’t get anything out of it,” Warriors coach Hal Gill said. “But that’s hockey. You have to stick with it.”

The Warriors (13-5-3) could not beat Orlando (32 saves), but Reading finally broke the deadlock at 2:53 of the third. Johnny Orlando tied the game briefly for the Sachems shortly after, but Oblak got the winner less than two minutes later.

In last night’s other Div. 2 first-rounder in Billerica, No. 9 Marblehead overcame 11 penalties and held off a second-period rally to beat No. 8 North Andover, 6-2.

“You’re playing with fate (taking 11 penalties),” Headers coach Bob Jackson said. “We could’ve made it an easier game if we had just been smart.”

The Headers (13-6-4) raced out to a 4-0 lead behind two goals from forward Drew Cioffi, who finished with a hat trick and an assist. North Andover (12-7-3) cut the lead to 4-2 going into the third period, but Haley scored on a wraparound to make it 5-2.

In the Div. 2 South first round, Brendan McHugh scored the winner with 2:05 left in double overtime to give No. 5 North Attleboro (14-3-4) a 2-1 victory over No. 12 Plymouth North. . . . Jack Maloney scored as No. 8 Oliver Ames (14-6-1) took a 5-2 win over No. 9 Nauset.

In Div. 2 North, Jake Burridge scored twice, including the tiebreaking goal with two minutes left, and No. 11 Stoneham (11-8-2) used a four-goal third period to rally past No. 6 Tewksbury, 5-2.
