Delia, Merrimack shut out New Hampshire

Collin Delia stopped all 25 shots he faced as Merrimack blanked New Hampshire, 4-0, in Game 1 of their men’s Hockey East tournament first-round series last night in North Andover.

Sami Tavernier and Derek Petti scored in the first period for the seventhsee­ded Warriors (15-14-6). Chris LeBlanc made it 3-0 at 4:37 of the second, and Tyler Irvine added an empty-net goal in the third.

Jace Hennig had two assists for Merrimack, which can wrap up the best-ofthree series when it hosts 10th-seeded UNH (12-18-5) in Game 2 tonight.

Providence 3, UMass 0 — Erik Foley and Josh Wilkins both had a goal and two assists, Hayden Hawkey made 22 saves and the fifthseede­d Friars (21-9-5) took Game 1 of their Hockey East first-rounder against the 12th-seeded Minutemen (5-28-2) in Providence.

Vermont 5, Maine 0 — Liam Coughlin scored twice in the first period, Stefanos Lekkas made 31 saves and the sixth-seeded Catamounts (19-11-5) blanked the 11thseeded Black Bears (11-20-4) in another HE first-round opener in Burlington, Vt.

Sacred Heart 4, Bentley 1 — In Game 1 of the Atlantic Hockey quarterfin­als, Vito Bavaro scored the gamewinner and the ninth-seeded Pioneers (13-17-5) rallied for four unanswered goals in the third period to beat the eighth-seeded Falcons (11-17-7) in Watertown.

Men’s basketball

Princeton 73, Harvard 69 — Steven Cook matched his career high with 30 points and Amir Bell scored the winning basket with 1.1 seconds left as the Tigers (20-6, 13-0 Ivy) won their 16th straight game, edging the Crimson (18-8, 10-3) in Princeton, N.J.

Princeton wrapped up the top seed and homecourt advantage for the inaugural Ivy League tournament next weekend. Harvard, which had won six straight since a 59-57 loss to the Tigers, will be No. 2.

Seth Towns had a careerhigh 26 for Harvard.

Yale 90, Cornell 63 — In New Haven, Conn., Anthony Dallier scored 18 points, Miye Oni had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds and the Bulldogs (16-10, 8-5) blasted the Big Red (7-21, 3-10), clinching the No. 3 seed in the Ivy League tournament.

Brown 88, Columbia 68 — In Providence, Steven Spieth scored 20 points and Brandon Anderson added 16 as the Bears (13-16, 4-9) tamed the Lions (11-15, 5-8), who are fighting for the fourth and final berth in the Ivy League tourney.

Babson 92, Husson 76 — Joey Flannery scored 28 points, Isaiah Nelsen added 24 with 12 rebounds and the No. 3 Beavers (26-2) opened the Div. 3 tournament with a rout of the Eagles (21-7) in Babson Park. Babson hosts Skidmore in the second round tonight.

Tufts 84, Salem State 81 — Also in the Div. 3 tourney in Pittsford, N.Y., Eric Savage came off the bench and scored 14 points, making 8-of-8 free throws as the No. 14 Jumbos (21-6) held off the Vikings (17-11), whose Marcus Faison had 30 points and 14 rebounds.

Eastern Conn. 86, MIT 70 — Tarchee Brown scored 22 points, Hugh Lindo added 21 with 12 boards and the Warriors (21-8) dominated the No. 21 Engineers (21-7) in Selinsgrov­e, Pa.

Endicott 71, Salisbury 68 — Kamahl Walker (32 points) made a go-ahead layup with 21 seconds left and added two clutch free throws to help the Gulls (23-6) edge the Sea Gulls (20-8) in Aston, Pa.

Nichols 96, Neumann 93 — DeAnte Bruton had 28 points and Marcos Echevarria (18) made all 10 of his free throws as the Bison (24-5) stunned the No. 11 Knights (25-3) in Aston, Pa. Nichols and Endicott square off today.

Middlebury 84, Farmingdal­e State 75 — Adisa Majors, Matt St. Amour and Jack Daly scored 18 points apiece as the No. 6 Panthers (25-3) pulled away from the Rams (20-8) in Middlebury, Vt.

Keene State 69, Amherst 66 — Ty Nichols (19 points) hit the winning 3-pointer with two seconds left as the Owls (20-9) edged the Purple and White (17-8) in Mahwah, N.J. Keene State will face No. 5 Ramapo.

Williams 91, Becker 63 — In Williamsto­wn, Mike Greenman scored 21 points as the Ephs (20-8) crushed the Hawks (19-9). In Top 25 action: West Virginia 87, Iowa State 76 — Daxter Miles Jr. tied a career high with 23 points to lead the No. 10 Mountainee­rs (24-7, 12-6 Big 12) past the No. 24 Cyclones (20-10, 12-6) in Morgantown, W.Va.

Nathan Adrian added 16 points for the Mountainee­rs, who clinched the second seed in next week’s conference tournament behind top-ranked Kansas.

Wichita State 82, Bradley 56 — Darral Willis Jr. scored 17 points and Rashard Kelly added 14 as the No. 21 Shockers (28-4) overpowere­d the Braves (13-20) in a Missouri Valley tournament quarterfin­al in St. Louis.

Women’s basketball

Princeton 64, Harvard 60 — Madeline Raster made five 3-pointers and scored 16 points, but the Crimson (20-6, 8-5 Ivy) fell to the Tigers (15-10, 9-3) at Lavietes Pavilion.
