SOUND & FUHRER: The young John F.

Kennedy wrote Adolf Hitler was “the stuff that legends were made of.”

Specifically, “He had boundless ambition for his country which rendered him a menace to the peace of the world, but he had a mystery about him in the way he lived and in the manner of his death that will live and grow after him.”

Kennedy predicted Hitler would “emerge from the hatred that surrounds him now as one of the most significant figures who ever lived.”

That yikes revelation is in “Prelude to Leadership — JFK's Summer Diary of 1945,” up for auction on April 26. The 61-page diary — thought to be the only diary ever kept by the 35th president — stems from his days as a

Hearst newspaper war correspondent. It was consigned to RR Auction by Deirdre Henderson, a research assistant in Kennedy's Boston Senate office in 1959-60. Then 28, JFK spent the summer of '45 touring Europe in the waning days of WWII, and the final pages of the memoir record his thoughts on running for senate.
