Reenergize climate pact

-

When you looked outside your window March 14, it is very possible that you were seeing evidence of climate change right before your eyes (“Storm blows in, but snow stays low,” March 15). As climate change progresses, unseasonable storms will become more frequent. So, Massachusetts governors may have to make many more speeches in the future about staying safe in dangerous weather, due to the growing impact of climate change.

With Donald Trump as president, regional and local climate change initiatives are more important than ever. We need Gov. Charlie Baker to step up on a program that has already been working.

Baker can strengthen the successful Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, begun in 2009. This multi-state initiative has cut power plant pollution in half. And the money it has raised has funded $2.5 billion in clean energy programs across the region. Working together, we can cut pollution in half again by 2030. — Abigail McHugh, Chestnut Hill
