Le Bal features surreal salute to Dada

- — erica.corsano@bostonherald.com

Leave it to the French to issue an invite to a party with the dress code, “Surreal Black Tie.”

On April 1, dozens of Francophiles will interpret that sartorial command at the French Cultural Center’s annual fundraising Le Bal.

This year the soiree is dedicated to the early 20th century, post-WWI Dada art movement.

“We are encouraging our guests to dress up their traditional black-tie attire with one or more surreal accessories. Dada is defined by rejecting reason for nonsense and embracing contrast. Options include absurd fascinators, flashy bow ties, flamboyant shoes ... for example, I will be wearing a full black tuxedo, with a sparkly tiara and a couple of golden bold accessories!”

Ryan Waldron, manager of special events and membership told us. The avantgarde, anti-establishment movement ( Salvador Dali was a founder) resulted in surreal works of sculpture, collage, poetry and more.

There will be savory and sweet bites from La Voile, surrealist decor and a dance party to the beats of DJ

MANV and DJ Jesse Kaminsky,

who’ll be blending visual and auditory experiences for guests. Ooh la la!

Tickets are $175 and proceeds will support the organization’s Mosaique initiative “for exceptional cultural community programs.”
