Flyers tip Sens in SO

Jordan Weal scored the only shootout goal after tying the game late in the third period to lift the Philadelph­ia Flyers to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators last night.

Brayden Schenn also scored for the Flyers, who are six points out of an Eastern playoff spot and need to jump four teams. Steve Mason made 26 saves.

The second-place Senators fell four points behind Montreal for first place in the Atlantic Division. Kyle Turris had a goal and an assist, and Craig Anderson had 33 saves.

Canadiens 4, Stars 1— Brendan Gallagher put his team ahead early in the third period and Montreal went on to the victory against visiting Dallas.

Max Pacioretty, Artturi Lehkonen and Alexander Radulov also scored for the Canadiens. Carey Price finished with 27 saves.

The game marked the first time brothers Jamie and Jordie Benn played against one another in the NHL. Jordie Benn was traded by Dallas to the Canadiens in February.

Maple Leafs 3, Panthers 2— Auston Matthews broke Wendel Clark’s 31-year-old franchise rookie record with his 35th goal of the season, and host Toronto slipped past Florida.

The victory kept Toronto (87 points) one point up on the Bruins (86) for the third playoff spot in the Atlantic Division and four up on Tampa Bay (83).

Curtis McElhinney made 25 saves to earn the win for the Maple Leafs. Leo Komarov and Zach Hyman also scored.

Oilers 2, Kings 1 — Cam Talbot made 34 saves as host Edmonton edged Los Angeles to officially earn a playoff spot for the first time in 11 years.

Connor McDavid and Eric Gryba scored for the Oilers, who have won seven of their last eight games. Jarome Iginla scored and Jonathan Quick finished with 27 saves for the Kings, who have lost four of their last five.

Capitals 5, Wild 1 — In St. Paul, Minn., T.J. Oshie scored his second goal of the game 1:42 into overtime to bookend Alex Ovechkin’s hat trick, Braden Holtby made 26 saves to earn his 40th win and NHL-leading Washington beat slumping Minnesota for its fifth straight victory.

Eric Staal tied the game for the Wild with 26.6 seconds left in regulation.

Ducks 4, Canucks 1 — Corey Perry and Patrick Eaves scored 74 seconds apart early in the first period, and Anaheim cruised past host Vancouver to extend its season-high winning streak to five games.

Nick Ritchie, with a goal and an assist, and Brandon Montour also scored for the Ducks, who clinched a playoff spot.

Blue Jackets 3, Sabres 1 — Cam Atkinson got his teamleadin­g 34th goal and Sergei Bobrovsky had 41 saves in his 41st win to power Columbus past visiting Buffalo.

Hurricanes 4, Red Wings 1— Cam Ward stopped 21 shots and Carolina beat Detroit for a split in the teams’ back-to-back meetings in Raleigh, N.C., and to move four points out of the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot while running its points streak to 12 games (8-0-4).

Jets 4, Devils 3 — In Newark, N.J., Patrik Laine scored in a shootout and Winnipeg rallied to edge New Jersey in the makeup of a game that was postponed by a snowstorm earlier this month.
