TEACHER GETS ‘OFFICE’ HELP
AKingston middle school teacher attempted the Twitter- equivalent to a Hail Mary pass to Brighton native John Krasinski, asking the actor to support an educational fundraising effort. And it worked. “@johnkrasinski Tomorrow is another #BestSchoolDay for @DonorsChoose,” tweeted Shawn Avery. “Think we can get some people/companies on board for MA students?” The local middle school educator was referring to #BestSchoolDay, a daylong fundraiser for schools across the country held by nonprofit DonorsChoose.org. Imagine Avery’s surprise when Krasinski not only saw it, but called for backup. Krasinski replied to Avery’s tweet, tagging about half of the old cast of “The Office” to help. He also threw in a few more made-in-Massachusetts celebrities, like Ben Affleck and Conan O’Brien, for good measure.
“Whadaya say @SteveCarell @bjnovak @mindykaling @ ChrisEvans @BenAffleck @ConanOBrien? Make some noise for schools in MA today? @DonorsChoose,” posted the actor, who will forever be known as Dunder Mifflin’s Jim Halpert in our hearts.
Cambridge native Mindy Kaling, funny gal extraordinaire who had played Kelly Kapoor alongside Krasinski on “The Office,” shot back with an authentic “wicked good idea @ johnkrasinski! @DonorsChoose #bestschoolday.”
Die-hard fans of “The Office” haven’t been able to resist joining in on the star-studded Twitter thread, making references to “Scott’s Tots.”
Folks who watched the series might remember the season 6 episode in which boss Michael Scott (played by Concord native Steve Carell) has to break the news to a bunch of underprivileged high school students that he can’t actually pay for their college tuitions as he had promised them nine years prior.
So he gave them all laptop batteries instead. Because that’s pretty much the same thing.
Carell, a part-time Marshfield resident, has yet to chime in on the Twitter conversation. But maybe he’ll surprise us all and make up for his character’s “Scott’s Tots” blunder IRL. One can dream, anyway.
