Jennings gets the call as Sox beat reporter
The start of a new Red Sox season is near. And the Herald is adding to its team of baseball writers just in time.
Chad Jennings is joining the Herald to cover the Red Sox beat with Michael Silverman and Jason Mastrodonato.
Jennings has covered the New York Yankees since 2009 for the The Journal News in Westchester County, N.Y. He’s a veteran baseball journalist who’s covered the sport since 2003.
No stranger to the intensity of Red Sox-Yankees bouts, Jennings will now view the most storied rivalry in baseball through a Fenway prism, instead of one from the Bronx.
“I can’t think of a better way to prepare to cover the Red Sox than to cover the Yankees,” Herald Sports Editor Sean Leahy said. “Chad is ready to jump in and start providing Herald readers with unique information and perspective about the Sox.
“We’re lucky to have him. And I know he’ll fast become a favorite source of information for Sox fans.”
Herald Editor in Chief Joe Sciacca said, “We’re thrilled to welcome Chad to our great team of Red Sox writers. Readers who have followed his coverage say it made them feel like they were sitting right in the press box. He’ll be a terrific fit at the Herald.”
Jennings grew up in Missouri, but is putting down roots in Massachusetts after welcoming a son here with his wife earlier this month.
“My wife grew up in Lynnfield, my sister graduated from MIT and my son was born three weeks ago at Mass General. My family always hoped and planned to settle into the Boston area, and I’m fortunate to do so while covering a fascinating team with a passionate fan base,” Jennings said.
“I’m excited to get started and looking forward to working with Michael, Jason and the rest of the Herald sports staff.”
Jennings will begin writing Monday at the season opener when the Sox host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park.
