Fashion in bloom
...AND SO’S THE GARDNER
Party season is in full bloom, as are the nasturtiums at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
The Boston institution and former home of our most famous socialite celebrated the edible flower at last night’s Nasturtium Celebration honoring the late social and style photographer Bill Cunningham, who had a special relationship with the museum.
“Isabella’s museum also served as inspiration for another creative soul who first came to the museum at the age of 7. Bill Cunningham said it was his first ‘aesthetic’ experience and it shaped the rest of his life. The Gardner became a spiritual home and he came back often and he loved watching Stan Kozak (the museum’s horticulturalist of 48 years) and his team work with these magnificent flowers,” said museum director Peggy Fogelman.
While the wacky New England weather wasn’t exactly conducive to strolling the grounds, guests kept warm and toasty inside with cocktails, light bites, live jazz music, blooming artwork and a fashion presentation by local style stars and “Project Runway” season 15 winner Erin Robertson and her pal and fellow local designer Christian Restrepo.
Revelers on site included style guru Elisha Daniels, design star David Webster, Massart fashion educator Sondra Grace and event planning social extraordinaire Lynn Dale.
While we really wanted to, we didn’t dare pluck and eat one of the gorgeous florals — but we do hear that they have a zingy, peppery taste. (File that under how to behave at a social event).
