- By GREG DUDEK Joe Reardon and Brendan Connelly contributed to this report.

When Newton North and King Philip meet, there is no margin for error in the pitching circle.

Senior Madison Schaefer delivered for the Tigers yesterday, outdueling Jenn Hutnyan to down the Warriors, 1-0, at Watters Field in Plainville.

Schaefer dominated, allowing three hits and striking out eight in the nonleague win

“She’s a kid that has wanted a chance,” said Newton North coach Lauren Baugher. “She has had pitchers before her that were really good. This is her year. She’s on a mission.”

Newton North (3-1) couldn’t back Schaefer with any run support until the top of the seventh when the Tigers got to Hutnyan (seven innings, seven hits, eight strikeouts). Pinch-hitter Emma MacLean and Caroline Bass led with singles and Izzy Antonelli walked to load the bases. Kira Flegenheimer hit a fly ball to center that was dropped, allowing MacLean to score the game’s lone run. Schaefer closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh. She fanned six straight batters in one stretch.
