Pilgrim a real danger

-

The Pilgrim Nuclear Power plant is a grave threat to all of us on the East Coast, from Maine to Connecticut (“Nuclear plant exempted from regulations as shutdown nears,” April 18). The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has, grotesquely, cleared it for operation through a planned 2019 shutdown.

Pilgrim is rated by the NRC as one of the most dangerous nuclear plants in the country, in part because of the damage that could result from an earthquake.

The NRC, which has always been cozy with the nuclear industry, has exempted Pilgrim from the seismic and flooding regulations put in place after the Fukushima disaster in Japan.
