OH NO – JOJO’S HITS NOT SPOTTED
Our favorite throwback tracks from Foxboro singer JoJo are missing from Spotify. That's because her former label reportedly yanked her debut, self-titled album from the site.
“My former label removed my music, I unfortunately have absolutely no control over what they do or don't do,” JoJo tweeted to fans who were asking her why “timeless” jams like “Leave (Get Out)” are no longer available on Spotify.
When a fan followed up asking, “do u think u could somehow get the rights to ur music and then put it up on Spotify? they cant keep it locked up forever?” she responded that it could happen someday.
“Somehow? Probably,” she wrote on Twitter. “Is that my focus right now? No. I want to let bygones be bygones. I pray one day they put my music back up.”
Earlier in her career, JoJo was signed with Blackground Records. She isn't the first artist to have her music linked to Blackground vanish from Spotify. A slew of songs by the late R&B princess Aaliyah, who died in a 2001 plane crash, also disappeared from the streaming realm.
After a seven-year contract dispute with Blackground Records, JoJo was able to sign with her current label, Atlantic Records. She released her most recent album, “Mad Love,” in 2016. On the album, the pop star collaborated with artists including Wiz Khalifa and Alessia Cara for the songs “(Expletive) Apologies” and “I Can Only,” respectively.
We can get down with the new JoJo jams, but there's nothing like the classics. If you're left looking for that “Baby It's You” fix, you won't find it on iTunes either.
Upside: The 2004 “JoJo” album is available on Apple Music. And “Too Little, Too Late” is still streamable on Spotify, because some things must remain sacred.
