Yankees power into AL East lead

Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge and the thundering Yankees picked up right where they left off the previous night, steamrolli­ng past the Baltimore Orioles, 12-4, yesterday in New York for their fourth straight victory.

Gardner homered twice from the leadoff spot and had his first four RBI of the season. Austin Romine, the No. 9 batter, also went deep and knocked in five runs. Judge, not to be outdone, clocked his latest colossal homer and scored four times as New York (15-7) won its 14th in 17 games.

Blue Jays 4, Rays 1 — Justin Smoak had three hits, including a two-run homer, and host Toronto beat Tampa Bay to end a three-game losing streak.

Rays outfielder Steven Souza left the game in the seventh after being hit on the back of the left hand by a pitch from reliever Joe Biagini. He is day-to-day.

White Sox 6, Tigers 4 — Melky Cabrera led off the 10th inning with a solo homer off Justin Wilson (1-1) and Avisail Garcia added an RBI triple, lifting visiting Chicago over Detroit.

Jose Abreu played for the first time since leaving Wednesday’s game with a hip injury and homered twice for Chicago.

Indians 4, Mariners 3 — Danny Salazar (2-2) got off to a rocky start, then combined with two Cleveland relievers to hold visiting Seattle hitless over the final eight innings.

Jose Ramirez and Lonnie Chisenhall each had two RBI in Cleveland’s four-run first off Yovani Gallardo (1-3).

Athletics 2, Astros 1 — Khris Davis clubbed his 10th home run to back a solid start by Andrew Triggs (4-1) and visiting Oakland snapped a five-game skid overall, and a 10-game losing streak against Houston.

Rangers 6, Angels 3 — In Arlington, Texas, Carlos Gomez’ seventh-inning home run gave him his second career cycle and Texas beat Los Angeles.

Twins-Royals, ppd. — The game between Minnesota and host Kansas City was postponed because of rain. The teams will make it up July 1 as part of a day-night split doublehead­er.

Mets 5, Nationals 3 — Michael Conforto hit two home runs and slumping Jose Reyes also connected, leading visiting New York over Washington.

Meanwhile, a person familiar with the situation says Nationals center fielder Adam Eaton will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Rockies 7, Diamondbac­ks 6 — In Phoenix, Mark Reynolds singled in the tying runs with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch as Colorado came back on Arizona, scoring three runs off Diamondbac­ks closer Fernando Rodney

(1-2).

Before the game, Shelby Miller announced he will have Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow, ending his season.

Padres 12, Giants 4 — Wil Myers hit a three-run homer to cap San Diego’s eightrun sixth inning, which rallied the visitors in San Francisco. San Diego scored 11 runs against the Giants’ bullpen following five effective innings from starter Matt Cain.

Braves 11, Brewers 3 — Matt Kemp homered three times and drove in five runs, and surging Atlanta collected 20 hits and pounded host Milwaukee for its fourth straight victory.

Pirates 4, Marlins 0 — Ivan Nova (3-2) pitched a three-hitter, John Jaso homered and drove in two runs, and visiting Pittsburgh beat Miami. Reds-Cardinals, ppd. — The game between host St. Louis and Cincinnati was postponed because of rain. No makeup date has been announced.
