Panthers sign McCaffrey

-

The Carolina Panthers have signed first-round pick Christian McCaffrey and two other draft choices.

Terms of the deals weren’t disclosed last night. McCaffrey, the versatile 5-foot-10, 202-pound running back who also played wide receiver and returned kicks, was the eighth overall pick. The former Stanford star broke Barry Sanders’ single-season allpurpose yards record in 2015 by racking up 3,864 yards and was selected The Associated Press Player of the Year.

The Panthers also signed secondround pick Taylor Moton, an offensive tackle from Western Michigan, and sixth-round pick Alex Armah, a fullback from West Georgia. Colts like duo’s bloodlines

The Indianapolis Colts signed 18 undrafted rookies, including receivers Trey

Griffey and Jerome Lane, whose fathers were pro athletes.

Griffey, the son of baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr., finished his career at Arizona with 79 catches, 1,241 yards and six TD catches. He was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 2016 baseball draft.

Lane’s father played in the NBA and broke a backboard in college at Pitt.

Bucs’ Martin hurt in accident

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers say running back Doug Martin suffered “minor cuts and bruises” when he was involved in a car accident near the team’s training facility.

General manager Jason Licht said in a statement that the two-time Pro Bowl selection who was the NFL’s second-leading rusher two years ago was evaluated by team medical staff before heading home.

Martin, who’s participating in the team’s offseason conditioning program, rushed for 1,402 yards in 2015. He had 421 yards and three touchdowns a year ago, when he missed eight games because of injuries and a suspension that will extend into next season for violating the NFL’s policy on PEDs.

Jets cut safety Gilchrist

Marcus Gilchrist’s future with the New York Jets was uncertain when they drafted Jamal Adams in the first round last week. After they took another safety — Marcus Maye — in the second round, Gilchrist’s fate was sealed.

New York released Gilchrist yesterday, ending the veteran safety’s stint with the Jets after two seasons.

Texans LB Bullough suspended

Bullough has spent his three-year career in Houston after he was signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2014.
