MOMS KNOW BEST

Local celebs share what gifts they’re coveting

- By GRETTA MONAHAN

Iguess you could say I'm a little biased (I'm already a mom and about to become a new mom again next month), but Mother's Day is one of my favorite holidays. After all, from the diapers and dealing with teen angst to serving as models of strength, moms are our rocks even when we don't realize it. So with this Sunday being Mother's Day, I've asked several friends, all of whom are inspiring local celebs and Super Moms, to share a few gems with us — both gifts they're coveting, which I've curated to sell at my salon and clothing boutique, as well as some words of wisdom.

My Wish List

For myself, I've become a huge fan of Eriness jewelry — especially the line's Triple Diamond Staple Ring with white diamonds ($1,125); the beautiful Multicolored Eternity Band in yellow gold with multicolored gemstones ($375); and the Open Diamond Cigar Band in yellow gold ($1,500). All of the above are available at eriness.com. And you can meet the designer today at the Mother's Day trunk show at Gretta Luxe (94 Central St., Wellesley) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As much as I crave investment pieces like the jewelry above, I also really appreciate low-cost, high-value gifts like those at collage .com. The site spotlights personalized gifts like photo books filled with precious memories and customized blankets — always oneof-a-kind and loaded with love.

I always need easy accessories that are versatile enough to wear from weekends to weddings. Lexicon of Style (lexiconofstyle.co) carries easy scarves in bold patterns and vivid colors, all designed by style influencer Alexandra Dieck. The small ones can be worn as a headband, on the neck and wrist, and nearly endless other ways — all instantly glam and on-trend.

Sara Underwood

“My grandma and grandpa used to own a children's clothing store while I was growing up,” said the morning Boston 25 News anchor. “So unfortunately for my husband, I discovered a love for shopping at an early age. And, I've learned from my mom over the years that it's better to have fewer things that are classic and better quality than many things that are trendy and will last only one season.

“With summer around the corner, a new pair of Chloe sandals would be delightful. The pair that I currently own has lasted me three seasons and are so incredibly comfortable. They come in so many different fun colors. I've got a feeling my 12-year-old daughter would want a pair as well. Thankfully she is still two sizes smaller than me!

“As for clothing, I'd be beyond happy with absolutely anything Veronica Beard. I love the entire line.”

Daniela Corte

“My mom and I have different styles — she goes for comfort and I go for fashion,” said the celebrated women's fashion designer. “But she still taught me that no matter what your style is, you should choose things that make you feel good about yourself and comfortable in your own skin. “I'm thinking ahead to summer, and all those gorgeous sky-high, modern espadrille designs out there are calling my name. Lanvin has a particularly sleek, strappy leather wedge carried at Gretta Luxe that I've been eyeing …”

Corinne Grousbeck

“My mom, who was height-challenged, advised me to `always wear a little heel,'” recalled Grousbeck, philanthropist (and selfconfessed boutique fiend). “Even her house slippers had wedges. To this day, I struggle with flats.

“Any sandal from Proenza Schouler. Size 8, please. “I'm coveting the Barbara Bui fold-over hobo. Also, anything Proenza Schouler, but I've already purchased most of it all myself!”
