San Diego cybersecurity firm relocates to Financial District
A rapidly growing cybersecurity firm that was formerly based in San Diego has moved its corporate headquarters to Boston and plans to add dozens of employees to its growing Financial District office.
“We are surrounded by a lot of amazing people and a lot of talented minds,” said Paul Martini, CEO and co-founder of iboss, during a ceremony yesterday afternoon. “We’re in cybersecurity, and we’re in an age of digital warfare.”
Gov. Charlie Baker joined Martini at the company’s new 23,000-square-foot office at 101 Federal St. and said he appreciated the decision to move from sunny San Diego to Boston. He said the company is on the forefront of the ongoing battle against cyber criminals.
“This is a global problem,” he said. “As connectivity and the use of digital platforms becomes broader and more significant, this issue is only going to become a bigger one.”
Iboss has just over 100 employees and has plans to add more than 300. Martini, however, is looking at expanding the company’s footprint even further.
“We want to help cement Massachusetts’ place as the No. 1 cybersecurity hub in the world,” he said. “That means hiring thousands of people, which we intend to do. We want the greatest and most talented minds to stay here in Boston, and we want to help them stay in Boston.”
Massachusetts did not lure iboss with any tax incentives or other state-sponsored inducements, Martini said.
“We don’t even think that way. Texas offered us an incentive a while back, and we passed on that,” he said. “It’s such a big industry and such a big need that the access to human capital — which is literally why we chose Boston — is strong here.”
Iboss intends to increase its leadership, sales, engineering and marketing teams in Boston. The company is attempting to protect its cybersecurity technology through 100 patents and pending patents. Iboss currently touts more than 4,000 customers, including Boston Public Schools.
