Country stars salute heroes at Patriot Fest
This weekend at the Lawn on D, families can have fun with their kids, honor America’s veterans and get a little “Redneck Crazy” while they’re at it.
Highlighting the weekend will be Saturday’s second annual Patriot Fest concert, produced by Massachusetts Fallen Heroes and launching a week of events to honor veterans’ sacrifices. The kickoff concert will be a rare local chance to see two modern country stars, Tyler Farr and Eric Paslay.
Texas native Paslay is best known for “Friday Night,” the banjo-driven tune that went top 10 on the country charts three years ago. He’s also made hits with other artists, guesting along with Dierks Bentley on Charles Kelley’s Grammy-nominated single “The Driver.”
Currently one of the biggest stars in Nashville, Tyler Farr trained as an opera singer before turning to country. The rough and rowdy “Redneck Crazy” was his breakthrough hit two years ago, and he’s followed that with another pair of hell-raising hits, “Whiskey in My Water” and “A Guy Walks Into a Bar.” While boozy heartbreak songs may be his specialty, you can also expect Farr to break out something more patriotic this weekend.
Tickets for the concert are available in advance through Ticketmaster and admission is 21-plus, but the rest of this weekend’s events are free and familyfriendly. Come early tomorrow and hang out with Boston Herald Radio, which will be broadcasting live all day beginning at 9 a.m.
The free series of Lunch Break on D concerts continues noon tomorrow with Molly Kupris, a Berklee singer-songwriter who’s inspired by modern country and pop and names Chris Stapleton’s “Whiskey and You” as one of her favorite songs. Though she writes much of her own material, she recently made a video for a grabbing cover of one of the prettiest Led Zeppelin songs, “Going to California.”
Competitive lawn-gamers will be out in force tomorrow evening for the weekly cornhole tournament, beginning at 6:30. Citizens Bank will have a kiosk set up for registration; the bank is not only sponsoring the tournament, it also promises a fun prize for the winners.
Sunday is officially Funday, with a slate of free music and games running from 2 p.m. into the evening. Bring the family to enjoy the colorful and popular lawn swings. Dance under the stars to Closing Time, playing all your favorite pop and R&B songs. Closing out the night with be the hard-charging local band Wolfpack. Specializing in current and classicrock favorites, along with originals such as local anthem “Dirty Water Girls,” they’re guaranteed to take your weekend out rocking.
