Rays complete winning trip

Corey Dickerson hit a three-run homer — his third homer in two days — and Alex Cobb controlled Cleveland over seven innings as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Indians, 7-4, yesterday in Cleveland to complete their most successful road trip in a year.

Dickerson connected in the second inning off Josh Tomlin and Logan Morrison hit a solo shot in the third for Tampa Bay, which went 4-2 on a swing through Boston and Cleveland. It’s the Rays’ first winning trip since last May.

Cobb allowed three runs and six hits while throwing 115 pitches on an unseasonab­ly warm day. He retired the last eight batters he faced.

Tigers 5, Orioles 4 — Tyler Collins snapped an 0-for-30 skid in style, hitting two home runs for Detroit to beat visiting Baltimore.

Yankees 11, Royals 7 — Aaron Hicks hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run fourth inning, the visiting New York piled up 16 hits and rolled over Kansas City.

Mariners 4, Athletics 0 — Christian Bergman allowed two hits and struck out nine in 7 1⁄3 innings, Jean Segura and Nelson Cruz each drove in two runs and host Seattle blanked Oakland.

Braves 8, Blue Jays 4 — Kurt Suzuki hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run first inning, and Atlanta held on after Freddie Freeman left with an injury in a win over visiting Toronto.

Freeman was struck on the left wrist by a pitch in the fifth inning. The umpires initially ruled that Aaron Loup’s pitch did not hit Freeman. But with the Atlanta star in obvious pain, the Braves challenged and the call was reversed after a video review.

Before the game, the Braves placed third baseman Adonis Garcia on the 10-day disabled list with left Achilles tendinitis.

Astros 3, Marlins 0 — Lance McCullers paid tribute to the late Jose Fernandez and pitched like him, allowing no earned runs for the third start in a row, and Houston completed a threegame sweep of host Miami.

Rangers 9, Phillies 3 — In Arlington, Texas, Andrew Cashner finally won in his home state, pitching seven solid innings to help Texas match the longest winning streak in the majors this year at eight games, beating Philadelph­ia.

Rockies, Twins ppd. — The game between Colorado and Minnesota in Minneapoli­s was postponed due to stormy weather. It will be made up as part of a day-night doublehead­er today.

National League

Diamondbac­ks 5, Mets 4 — In Phoenix, Chris Herrmann homered off Rafael Montero leading off the 11th inning, as Arizona sent New York to its season-high seventh straight loss.

Dodgers 6, Giants 1— Clayton Kershaw took a share of the major league lead with his seventh win after seven shutout innings, and earned career victory No. 20 against his archrivals, helping Los Angeles avoid a sweep in San Francisco.

Pirates 6, Nationals 1 — Gerrit Cole shut down the best offense in the majors, holding Washington to three hits in seven innings to win for the first time in a month as host Pittsburgh breezed to victory.

Tests on tissue removed from Pirates pitcher Jameson Taillon last week confirmed he is dealing with testicular cancer. Taillon will be re-evaluated next week before deciding the next course of treatment.

Cubs 7, Reds 5 — Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber drove in two runs apiece, and host Chicago handed sloppy Cincinnati its season-high fifth straight loss.

Brewers 3, Padres 1 — Jett Bandy’s RBI single snapped a tie in the top of the ninth inning and helped visiting Milwaukee top San Diego.
