HERALD PICKS

-

Here are the Herald's selections for the Super Eight. The tournament committee meets tonight at 6 to determine the eight teams in the field. Follow the Herald via Twitter (@BostonHeraldHS) to see how it unfolds. 1. ST. JOHN’S (SHREWSBURY) (19-3): Virtually everyone who has seen the Pioneers play comes away convinced they are the most talented team in the state. 2. ST. JOHN’S PREP (15-5): The Catholic Conference runner-up might have cemented its place in the No. 2 spot with its win against St. John's (S) over the weekend. 3. CENTRAL CATHOLIC (15-4): The Raiders still have one game left today against New Bedford, but their body of work is solid enough. 4. BELMONT (17-3): Marauders have lived up to the preseason hype and richly deserve to be the second Division 2 team to make this event. 5. BRAINTREE (14-6): Wamps might have as many quality wins as anyone in the field, but some head-scratching losses drop them a bit. 6. BC HIGH (12-8): Catholic Conference champs have the pitching to compete with anyone, but a lack of run support has hurt at times. 7. ANDOVER (15-5): Golden Warriors were 7-1 down the stretch and defeated Central Catholic and Peabody in its own tournament. 8. XAVERIAN (13-7): The Hawks put it together down the stretch, winning their final six games to earn the final spot. Look for either Lynn Classical (19-1) or Methuen (17-5) to grab this spot if Xaverian doesn't.
