From a quick climb to the mountaintop to a rapid fall from grace
2009 — Tiger Woods wins six times on the PGA Tour, earning more than $10.5 million and is ranked the No. 1 golfer in the world. Nov. 25, 2009 — The National Enquirer publishes a story claiming Woods had an extramarital affair with a New York City nightclub manager. Nov. 27, 2009 — Woods crashes his Cadillac Escalade SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree. He suffers minor facial lacerations and receives a ticket and $164 fine for careless driving. Dec. 2, 2009 — following a report of another mistress and the release of a voicemail message allegedly left by Woods for the woman, Woods puts out a statement admitting to “transgressions.” In the following days, more than a dozen woman claim to have had affairs with him. Dec. 11, 2009 — Woods admits to marital infidelity and announces “an indefinite break from professional golf.” Numerous sponsors, including Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade and General Motors end their sponsorship deals with him.
Feb. 19, 2010 — Woods gives a televised statement saying he had been in a 45-day therapy program since the end of December. He later announces he will return to golf at the 2010 Masters.
Aug. 23, 2010 — Woods and his Swedish model wife, Elin Nordegren, are divorced.
2010-2011 — Woods goes two years without a single PGA Tour win.
2013 — Woods returns from an elbow injury to win five times on tour, including the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in August, his last PGA victory.
2014 — Woods misses the Masters after undergoing his first back surgery.
March 2015 — Battling injuries, Woods falls out of the Top 100 in the World Golf Rankings for the first time since 1996, when he was 20 years old.
May 2016 — Woods drops out of the Top 500 in the World Golf Rankings for the first time in his career.
2016 — Woods misses all four major championships for the first time in his career, due to his back injuries.
March 31, 2017 — Woods announces he will miss the 2017 Mas-
ters despite being medically cleared.
April 20, 2017 — Woods announces he has undergone his fourth back surgery since 2014 and will miss the rest of the 2017 season.
May 29, 2017 — Woods is arrested in Florida for suspected DUI. He is ranked 876th in the World Golf Rankings.
