Maclin cut loose by Chiefs

-

The Kansas City Chiefs released wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, cutting ties with one of the most high-profile free agent signings made by general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid.

The unexpected move yesterday came after the Chiefs wrapped up the second week of voluntary workouts. Maclin had been a regular at the Chiefs’ practice facility this offseason.

The Chiefs have been struggling with the salary cap for few years, and they had just $3.5 million available before the move. By releasing Maclin after June 1, they saved about $10 million to use on their draft picks and possible free agents.

Maclin was entering the third year of a $55 million, five-year contract. It was a costly deal when the Chiefs were found guilty of tampering and stripped of two draft picks and received a fine. . . .

Dufner holed out from 176 yards on the 18th hole for an eagle, and then added three birdies on the front nine for another 7-under 65, giving him the 36-hole scoring record and a 5-shot lead.

Dufner was at 14-under 130, 1 shot better than the record previously held by Rickie Fowler (2010) and Scott Hoch (1987).

Daniel Summerhays made bogey on his last hole and shot 69 to finish 5 shots behind Dufner. Fowler (66) was another shot behind. Dustin Johnson, the world’s No. 1 player, coming off an opening 78, shot a 74 to miss the cut by 5 shots. . . .

NBA: Bosh, Heat to cut ties

Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat agreed on the next steps to remove him from the roster and the team’s salary cap, according to a source.

Bosh’s issues with blood clots have been determined as a career-ending injury situation which will allow the Heat cap relief going forward. Bosh cannot play for Miami again but may still seek medical clearance from another club if he decides he wants to play elsewhere.

Bosh has not played since February 2016. Bosh’s 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons were shortened by bouts with blood clots. . .
