In a see-saw battle, the King Philip softball team finally figured out Bishop Feehan when it counted the most.

No. 9 King Philip (18-6) dropped both regular season contests to the eighth-ranked Shamrocks, but squeaked out an 8-7 win in eight innings in a Division 1 South firstround contest yesterday in Attleboro.

Elise Pereira pitched 41⁄ innings of relief for the Warriors (18-6), allowing one inherited runner to score with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, and had an unearned run in the seventh which tied things 7-7.

“I was just trying to keep calm and hit my spots. I didn’t want anything too over the plate because they are such great hitters,” said the junior hurler. “We battled so hard. I’m so proud of my team, and you always have to be in the game because the ball always finds the person not in the game.”

After Pereira was able to get out of the bases loaded jam in the fourth, the Shamrocks loaded the bases again with two outs in the fifth.

Julia DaCosta, who already had a solo blast in the third inning, came to the plate looking to put things away — but Pereira forced a check-swing pop-up. Warriors catcher Brianna Lacy laid out head-first to make the highlight reel catch of the game to end the inning.

The Shamrocks (15-6) left 11 runners on base, but freshman leadoff hitter Jessica Levesque (4for-5, stolen base, run scored) hit a two-strike looping single with two outs in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Lacy scored the winning run in the top of the eighth. The junior was hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a one-out single by Sydney Phillips. Meghan Gorman (2-for-4, three runs scored) also was plunked by a pitch to load the bases. Lacy scored on an infield error on a ground ball by Hailey McCasland.
