JAY REVS FOR WORCESTER SHOW
Andover’s own Jay Leno will be temporarily hitting the brakes on his car obsession when he hightails it to Worcester come this fall. After more than 20 years of hosting “The Tonight Show,” the comedian hung up his late-night suit in 2014. But he’s returning to his stand-up roots and putting on a show Oct. 12 at The Hanover Theatre. Often clad in the kind of casual clothes your dad hauls out to clean the gutters, Leno has been taking it easy on the comedy front as of late. Instead, his focus has been on everything automobile. On June 28, the third season of his CNBC series “Jay Leno’s Garage” kicks off with 16 new episodes, wherein he’ll take in everything from car chases to monster trucks. Basically, he’ll be taking anything with a motor by the wheel. Accompanying Leno on the latest season of his car show will be celebrity guests, including former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush, vintage news broadcaster Ted Koppel, comedian and actress Wanda Sykes, media personality and former NFL player Michael Strahan, comedian Brad Garrett, and actors Josh Duhamel and J.B. Smoove.
Late last year, Leno helped Kendall Jenner — supermodel, Kardashian clan member and daughter of his good friend Caitlyn Jenner — pick out a 1956 Corvette. She had fallen in love with a similar car, a ’57, that she saw when visiting Leno’s garage, so he acted as her Corvette counselor.
The comedian also launched a line of detailing products. Jay Leno’s Garage Advanced Vehicle Care line includes 14 products, such as a quick detailer, hand wax, tire and trim care, metal polish, and leather cleaner and conditioner.
And, also in recent news, Leno has gotten his hands on a 2017 Ford GT. This 647-horsepower baby can go from zero to 60 mph in a wee 2.9 seconds. Leno is one of the few folks to get one of the first 250 made, and the GT is painted black with orange racing stripes.
