SEASIDE AMY SCHUMER
There’s a “trainwreck” on Martha’s Vineyard — and by that, we mean Amy Schumer. And this is likely not the last we’ll be seeing of the famous comedian and actress. She’s shooting her latest comedy in Boston next month.
We’ve been told that Schumer — who’s known for her Comedy Central series “Inside Amy Schumer,” along with movies “Snatched” and “Trainwreck” — spent the past weekend in Edgartown, chilling at David Letterman’s place in Katama both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday night, the accomplished blonde was hanging out in the Port Hunter area.
We might be seeing a whole lot more of Schumer this summer. The upcoming movie “I Feel Pretty,” in which she’s starring alongside Michelle Williams, is reportedly kicking off filming in the Hub this July.
The plot of the movie, which Schumer also will be producing, centers on a run-of-the-mill gal who suffers from insecurities about her appearance until she wakes up one day from a fall thinking she’s hot stuff, despite looking exactly as she did before. That’s some serious perception-vs.-reality comedy coming our way.
Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, the writers behind keystone modern rom-coms “How to Be Single” and “He’s Just Not That Into You,” wrote the “I Feel Pretty” script, and the movie will be a directing first for the two of them.
Beyond the “I Feel Pretty” buzz, Schumer is drawing attention because, word is, she might also be taking to the stage for her Broadway debut. Deadline.com reports that fellow comedian Steve Martin wants Amy to star in his next venture, “Meteor Shower,” in the fall.
“Meteor Shower” is about Corky and Norm, a husband and wife living in California in the ’90s who invite another couple to watch a meteor shower with them. If Schumer signs up for the gig, she would potentially play the part of Corky, who has a keen interest in cannibalism. Unsettling, and yet oddly intriguing.
The Martin comedy will be directed by Jerry Zaks — who also staged “Hello, Dolly!” — and produced by Joey Parnes, who previously worked with Martin on his Tony- nominated musical “Bright Star.” There’s no solid date, or venue for that matter, but Deadline said it’s looking like “Meteor Shower” will hit the stage around November.
In the meantime, let’s soak in all the Schumer and sun we can get this summer.
