Astros keep Yanks down

Carlos Correa tied a career-high with four hits and had three RBI, and the Astros routed the Yankees, 8-1, yesterday in American League action in Houston to send New York to its 14th loss in 19 games.

Marwin Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in a threerun second off Luis Severino (5-4) as the Astros improved the best record in the majors to 56-27. Yuli Gurriel had a single, double and homer for the Astros.

New York, which led the AL East by four games on June 13, lost two of their three games with the Astros and dropped three games behind the division-leading Red Sox.

New York went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and didn’t score until Chris Carter’s RBI single in the ninth.

Orioles 7, Rays 1 — Manny Machado hit a three-run homer, Mark Trumbo also went yard and Kevin Gausman (5-7) pitched seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball with nine strikeouts and host Baltimore eased past Tampa Bay.

Jesus Sucre ended the Orioles’ shutout bid with an eighth-inning homer.

Rays manager Kevin Cash fractured his left ankle while on a morning run but was in the dugout for the game.

Indians 11, Tigers 8 — Jose Ramirez homered twice, and visiting Cleveland snapped a streak of games with at least one strikeout for Justin Verlander (5-5) that dated to April 2007, chasing the Detroit ace in the fourth inning of the victory.

Mariners 5, Angels 3 — In Anaheim, Calif., Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning and James Paxton (6-3) retired the first 16 batters he faced, leading visiting Seattle by Los Angeles.

Royals 6, Twins 2 — Alcides Escobar had two hits and two RBI and Scott Alexander (12) got his first career win as host Kansas City beat Minnesota to move above .500.

White Sox 6, Rangers 5 — Yolmer Sanchez hit a tworun homer with two outs in the eighth to rally host Chicago past Texas, which left the bases loaded to end the game.

National League

Marlins 10, Brewers 3 — Marcell Ozuna hit two home runs — the second moments after having his bat thrown out for having too much pine tar on it — and visiting Miami blasted Milwaukee, whose Jonathan Villar had his bat tossed from the game earlier for the same issue.

Nationals 7, Cardinals 2 — Bryce Harper homered twice, doubled and drove in four runs, Max Scherzer (105) struck out 12 over seven scoreless innings and Washington beat host St. Louis.

Padres 5, Dodgers 3 — Jhoulys Chacin (6-4) pitched five scoreless innings, Manuel Margot homered and had two RBI, and San Diego won to improve to 2-7 against visiting Los Angeles.

Phillies 7, Mets 1 — Nick Pivetta (2-4) allowed one hit in seven innings, Daniel Nava had three hits and two RBI, and Philadelph­ia stopped host New York’s four-game winning streak.

Giants 5, Pirates 3 — Brandon Belt had an RBI single in a three-run seventh inning, then added a two-run homer in the eighth as San Francisco rallied for its sixth straight win, against host Pittsburgh.

Diamondbac­ks 4, Rockies 3 — In Phoenix, Ketel Marte’s run-scoring single in the ninth pushed Arizona by Colorado, which tied the game in the top of the inning on Charlie Blackmon’s single.

Cubs 6, Reds 2 — Jake Arrieta (8-6) pitched one-hit ball for seven innings, rookie Ian Happ hit a pair of home runs and Anthony Rizzo also went deep, leading visiting Chicago by Cincinnati.

Braves 4, Athletics 3 — Kurt Suzuki led off the 12th inning with his second home run of the game, helping Atlanta to the win that completed a three-game sweep of host Oakland.
